Ever wondered what it’s actually like to be a pest control technician? 👀

Claire’s day is a perfect example of just how varied the role can be — getting the van ready, carrying out inspections, getting into awkward spaces, following the evidence and working out exactly where the problem is coming from.

It takes patience, confidence, attention to detail and a willingness to get stuck in… all things Claire brings to every job. 🙌

Pest control is a hands-on career where you’re constantly learning, problem-solving and helping people — and no two days are ever the same.

One of the simplest ways we can check for flea activity… white overboots and a walk around the property. 👀

The movement and vibration can encourage fleas to jump, and the white boots make them much easier to spot.

Listen carefully and you can actually hear them landing on the boots — and if you look closely, you can see them too. 😳

Expanding foam can make an area look sealed… but mice often have other ideas. 🐭👀

Here, our technician found a clear entry point gnawed straight through the foam, with heavy smearing around the opening confirming regular mouse activity.

Expanding foam on its own is rarely a suitable long-term proofing solution. For effective rodent proofing, it should be combined with suitable gnaw-resistant materials such as mesh, metal or other appropriate barriers.

Proofing isn’t just about filling a hole — it’s about stopping them getting back through it.

💜 Some exciting news from Barricade…

Our Director and Co-Founder, Rebekah, has officially been named a finalist for Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2026 WeDO Scotland Awards! 🎉

Barricade started back in 2017 with Rebekah and Sean, and over the last nine years it has grown into the team and business we have today.

Behind that growth has been a lot of hard work, determination, learning as we go (and probably a fair amount of chaos 😂), all while Rebekah and Sean have also grown their family and welcomed three children along the way.

Rebekah has also previously served on the BPCA Executive Board and continues to contribute to the industry through the BPCA EDI Committee, with a particular passion for encouraging more women and young people into pest management.

We’re incredibly proud to see everything she has put into Barricade recognised in this way.

From nominee to finalist… now roll on the awards! 🥂💜

💜 A little bit of exciting news from Barricade!

Our Director and Co-Founder, Rebekah Carral, has been nominated for Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2026 WeDO Scotland Awards! 🎉

Since co-founding Barricade in 2017, Rebekah has played a huge part in taking the business from a small, founder-led pest control company to the growing team and multi-service business we are today.

Alongside growing Barricade, she has served on the BPCA Executive Board, currently sits as Vice Chair of the BPCA EDI Committee, and is passionate about creating more opportunities for women and young people within the pest management industry.

There have been plenty of challenges, lessons and very long days along the way, so we’re incredibly proud to see her journey recognised with this nomination.

Whatever happens next, this one is definitely worth celebrating! 💜

Congratulations, Rebekah! 🥂

🎶 THE CHAMPIONS… 🐝🏆

One by one, the starting line-up makes its entrance… 😂

A steady stream of wasps coming from the same tiny hole is a pretty good giveaway that there’s an active nest hidden inside.

Not quite what the tree surgeons expected to uncover… 🐝😳

While cutting back trees for our client, they disturbed this huge wasp nest hidden away inside.

We got the call and were on site within 20 minutes to get things under control and make the area safe again. 💪

Blink and you might miss the entrance… 🐝👀

A steady stream of wasps coming in and out of this tiny hole in the wall was all the confirmation we needed — active nest inside!

One board, the full German cockroach life cycle. 🪳👀

From ootheca (egg cases) and tiny nymphs through to fully grown adults — this “Trap-a-Roach” monitor shows just how established the infestation is.
