Even though some of the team are working from home this Friday, we’re still coming together to show our support for Wear Red Day!

We might not all be in the same place, but we can stand together against racism, discrimination and prejudice. ❤️

We’re inviting our colleagues to wear something red, wherever they are, and join us in showing that every one of us has a part to play in creating a more inclusive and equal society.

As we approach World Mental Health Day, let’s take a moment to remember that mental health matters every single day, not just tomorrow.

Behind every smile, there may be a struggle we know nothing about. A little kindness, a simple check-in, or taking the time to listen can make more of a difference than we realise. 🫶

Let’s continue to break the stigma, encourage open conversations, and remind one another that it’s okay not to be okay. You don’t have to face everything alone, and asking for help is a sign of strength. 💚

We’re proud to be working with University of Edinburgh Heritage Collections, with two members of their team currently undertaking our Cultural Venue Operations Diploma! 📚✨
 
We’ve also supported other Heritage Collections staff with their qualifications over the years, so it’s lovely to hear how much our team’s support has meant to their learners.
 
Laura Beattie, Engagement Officer (Communities), had some lovely words to share about our assessors and wider team from building learner confidence to tailoring support for each individual. 🙌

🏰 Heritage Careers Week: Meet Alex Cooper!
 
Meet Alex, who recently started his Cultural Venue Operations Modern Apprenticeship at Castle Fraser, a National Trust for Scotland property. With a lifelong love of history, Alex jumped at the opportunity to turn his interest into a career when he spotted the vacancy advertised locally.
 
Just over a month into his new role, he’s enjoying meeting new people, learning from his supportive colleagues and discovering the skills needed to care for and preserve the castle and its historic collections for future generations.

🏛️ Heritage Careers Week | Careers in Cultural Venues

What can a career in the heritage and cultural sector look like? For Anna Waters and Jonathan Higgins, it has meant developing valuable skills through the Diploma in Cultural Venue Operations at the National Library of Scotland.

Anna joined the National Library of Scotland as a new member of staff through a Modern Apprenticeship and, at the time of this testimonial, was working towards her qualification. Anna has since successfully completed the Diploma, marking another milestone in her career development.

Jonathan was already an employee at the National Library of Scotland when he enrolled on the qualification, which he has also successfully completed.

Their experiences show that the Diploma in Cultural Venue Operations is available for both new and existing employees — whether you’re looking to recruit and develop new talent or support your current team to gain a recognised qualification.
