The first screen of a website should not make the visitor decode the business.

It should answer four simple questions:

Am I in the right place?
Do they understand my problem?
Can I trust them?
What should I do next?

If those answers are missing, more ads may only send more people to an unclear page.

For a local business website on mobile, clarity matters more than novelty.

Can someone quickly understand what you do, trust you and make contact? Test the first screen, proof, tap targets, form and confirmation on a real phone.

Fix the first evidenced point of hesitation before buying a complete redesign.

A website can look professional and still fail the first job.

Before approving a rebuild, ads or search visibility help, open the homepage on your phone and do not scroll.

If a stranger cannot quickly understand what you do, who you help, why they should trust you and what to do next, the first improvement may be clarity rather than a full rebuild.

Use the First Screen Test before you spend more money.

Before changing a website, make a five-part inventory:

1. URLs and visibility.
2. Enquiry routes.
3. Proof and useful content.
4. Data and integrations.
5. Access, backups and recovery.

A responsible supplier should be able to explain how these will be protected.

Ask for the preservation plan before work begins.

Being told your website "looks dated" can create pressure to act. But appearance alone does not tell you whether the site is helping or harming the business.

Check the business result first: enquiries, mobile clarity, search visibility, tracking and technical problems. Then protect, repair, improve or replace from evidence.

Before approving a rebuild, ask: What business problem has been evidenced?
