Scottish Council on Archives

Scottish Council on Archives The Scottish Council on Archives is the lead body for the advocacy and development of archive and records management services in Scotland.

We lead on the advocacy and development of archive services in Scotland and support both historic collections and modern records management services. The work we do falls under four broad headings:
Research – collecting information about Scottish archives
Advocacy – making the case for continued investment in Scottish archives
Marketing – promoting opportunities for research and learning in Scottish archives
Development – providing training and development opportunities for Scottish archives

🎉 We are delighted to share that the Highland Archive Service has been awarded funding through the Archives Revealed Consortium Grant programme.
This exciting partnership with Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Museum & Tasglann nan Eilean and Scottish Council on Archives project will help preserve, catalogue and digitise important Gaelic archive collections held across Skye, Lochalsh and the Western Isles, ensuring they can be discovered and enjoyed by future generations.

From poetry and literature to community history and theatre, these collections tell powerful stories about Gaelic life, culture and identity. We look forward to sharing more about the project as work gets underway.

Archives Revealed is the only grant programme in the United Kingdom dedicated to cataloguing and unlocking archival collections. The programme is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Pilgrim Trust, the Wolfson Foundation and The National Archives. Its goal is to ensure that significant archive collections, representing the lives and perspectives of people across the UK, are made accessible for public research and enjoyment.

Today is 📸

Archives across Scotland hold millions of photographs whether that's portraits, industrial records, family snapshots, press images, aerial surveys or something else.

A huge thank you to the archivists, conservators, and volunteers working to preserve them for future generations.
