πŸ’™ Putting the spotlight on what it really means to care

We loved seeing the world of health and social care explored in "Natalie Cassidy: Caring Together" that aired earlier in the year. The series follows Natalie as she studies Health and Social Care and experiences the realities, challenges and rewards of working in care.

It’s great to see a programme shine a light on the skill, compassion and professionalism involved in caring roles, as well as the many different opportunities available across the sector.

It's another reminder of the incredibly important work care professionals carry out every day, supporting people across a wide range of services and settings.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch it on BBC iPlayer.

🌍🧠 World Stroke Day 🌍🧠

The 29th of October is World Stroke Day. This is an opportunity to raise awareness of stroke and the importance of recognising the signs.

One of the simplest things we can all learn is FAST:
πŸ§‘ Face - Has their face fallen on one side?
πŸ’ͺ Arms - Can they raise both arms and keep them there?
πŸ—£οΈ Speech - Is their speech slurred or difficult to understand?
⏰ Time - If you notice any of these signs, it’s time to call 999.

We are supporting World Stroke Day and helping to raise awareness of the importance of recognising the signs of a stroke, understanding prevention and knowing where to turn for support. πŸ’œ

πŸ“’ Calling all MyLife Edinburgh Carers πŸ“’

We'd like to remind all colleagues to book their free flu vaccination if you haven't already done so.

Frontline health and social care workers are encouraged to get the flu vaccine each year to help protect themselves, their colleagues and the people they support. The vaccine is the best way to reduce your risk of catching flu and passing it on to vulnerable individuals.

Flu can be serious for older people and those with underlying health conditions, which is why getting vaccinated plays such an important role in helping keep our communities safe throughout winter. πŸ’œβ„οΈ

πŸŽ€ Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Wear It Pink Day πŸŽ€

This October, we're supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month and inviting all colleagues to take part in Wear It Pink Day on Friday 23rd October.

By wearing something pink, we can help raise awareness of breast cancer, show support for those affected, and spark important conversations about health and wellbeing.

Whether it's a pink top, scarf, socks, badge, or just a splash of colour, we'd love to see everyone get involved! If you're taking part, don't forget to snap a photo and share it us at [email protected] or 07845 659767 to be featured on our socials and the next newsletter.

Breast cancer affects thousands of people and families every year, and events like Wear It Pink are a great way to show solidarity, raise awareness, and support the incredible work being done to improve outcomes for those affected.

πŸ’— Wear something pink on Friday 23rd October and help us make a difference.

National Fitness Day πŸƒπŸŽ§

As care professionals, many of our colleagues are active every day, whether you're supporting people in their homes, helping with mobility, walking between visits, or simply being on your feet throughout your shift. National Fitness Day is a great reminder that staying active doesn't have to mean spending hours in the gym. Small steps to look after your physical health can make a real difference to your wellbeing.

Looking after yourself is just as important as looking after others. That's why all employees have access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) through Spectrum.Life. Alongside confidential emotional and wellbeing support, the platform offers resources and guidance to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle, manage stress and prioritise your overall wellbeing.

Whether it's taking a short walk, stretching between visits, making time for rest, or reaching out for support when you need it, every small step counts. Thank you for everything you do to care for others, and remember to make time to care for yourself too. πŸ’™

If you need help signing up for the platform, please reach out to [email protected]
