October is shaping up to be a busy month for ProCare Bear 🧸

His first birthday visits of the month were to Ian, who celebrated his 77th birthday and Liz, who celebrated her 81st. 🎂

ProCare Bear was delighted to pop in and share a little birthday cheer with them both as he begins what looks set to be a very busy few weeks of celebrations.

Happy Birthday, Ian and Liz! We hope you both enjoyed your special days and had plenty of reasons to smile.

ProCare Bear has rounded off September with two very special birthday visits 🧸💙

This time he popped in to see Gitta, who celebrated her 96th birthday and Mary who celebrated her 93rd 🎈

Both ladies were absolutely delighted to see him, and judging by their reactions, we think ProCare Bear was just as pleased to see them🥰. There’s something so lovely about seeing the smiles this little bear can bring.

Happy Birthday Gitta and Mary! We hope you both enjoyed your special days 🎂

September may have been a quieter month for birthdays, but it looks like October is going to keep ProCare Bear very busy🧸🎉

With plenty more visits on the horizon, we’re looking forward to seeing where his October adventures take him 🐾

💉 Get Your FREE Flu Vaccination This Winter! ❗

The 2026 flu vaccination programme is now underway in Scotland, and we’re encouraging our Edinburgh staff, service users, families and followers to check whether they’re eligible for a FREE NHS Scotland flu vaccination.

Flu can be serious, even if you’re otherwise healthy. Vaccination can reduce your risk of catching flu and, if you do become infected, can help make your symptoms milder and reduce the risk of serious illness. It can also help reduce the spread of flu to those around you.

💙 Who is eligible for a FREE flu vaccination in Scotland?

You may be eligible if you are:

💉 Aged 65 or over
💉 Pregnant
💉 Aged 18–64 with an eligible health condition
💉 Living in a long-stay residential care home or other long-stay care facility
💉 A frontline health or social care worker
💉 A non-frontline NHS worker
💉 An unpaid or young carer
💉 A household contact of someone with a weakened immune system

👧 Children are also eligible in certain age groups, including children aged 2–5 who are not yet at school and primary and secondary school pupils.

📱 How do I get my flu vaccination?

Flu vaccinations are already being offered across Scotland. If you're eligible, you may receive a letter, email or text with appointment details or information explaining how to book. Health and social care workers can also book online by visiting; https://www.nhsinform.scot/wintervaccines

The flu virus changes over time, which is why vaccination is recommended every year to provide the best protection against the strains expected to circulate this winter.

We’re delighted to welcome Colm to Professional Carers as our new Deputy Manager!

Colm joins us with a wealth of experience in social care. Having previously led teams within a care home setting, he brings with him lots of knowledge, experience and a real understanding of what it takes to support both our team and the people we care for.

After many years working within care home settings, Colm is looking forward to a new challenge and bringing his experience into community care.

We’re really excited to have him as part of the Professional Carers team and are looking forward to working alongside him as he settles into his new role.

Today we say a very fond farewell to Sebastian after 4 and a half years with Professional Carers 👋💙

As our Deputy Manager and Trainer, Sebastian has made such a positive impact during his time with us. His passion for training and developing our team to provide the very best quality care has always been something to admire.

There have been plenty of laughs and great memories along the way - from the endless dad jokes to Sebastian’s own unique take on British sayings and phrases… which didn’t always come out quite right 😂.

While we’re incredibly sad to see him go, we’re delighted that Sebastian is following his passion and moving into a role dedicated to First Aid training across Scotland, something we know he’ll be fantastic at!

Sebastian, from all of us in the Professional Carers family, thank you for everything. We’ll miss your support, your dad jokes, your trusty tool kit that could fix any problem but most of all, having you as part of our team.

Good luck with your next chapter. We’re going to miss you loads 💙

We are delighted to share that Professional Carers has been named as a finalist at The National Care Awards 2026 for the following award:

🏆 Domiciliary Care Provider of the Year

This is a particularly special nomination for us because it recognises Professional Carers as a whole organisation and the collective work of our teams across all branches and services.

Our Edinburgh branch is very much part of that achievement. The continued growth of the service that we are seeing, along with the commitment of our Edinburgh colleagues and quality of care being delivered across the city, makes us the organisation we are today.

This latest recognition adds to what has already been a fantastic year for Professional Carers, and it is great to see the work of our teams being recognised at a local, regional and now national level — for the first time ever 🤗

On Friday 6th November management representatives from across Professional Carers attending The National Care Awards and whatever happens on the night, to have our organisation recognised amongst some of the very best in social care nationally is an achievement we are incredibly proud of.
