Is there anybody out there?

Is anyone still following this page? I'm thinking of ranting about fitness again. Interested? Topics? Free money for me?

I really dislike the "upper-abs vs. lower-abs" debate, because the real question is not being asked: "Why do you care?" When a client asks me how to train their "lower abs," it virtually always means they want to get rid of their "gut."

So for the very last time ever (until the next time I have to debunk this myth, say, next Thursday): You can NOT "spot reduce."

Let's just say for argument's sake that you are the one in 100 who can totally isolate your lower abs and shred—what? The bottom of the six-pack? What would the point be of doing a nonintegrated ab exercise versus an integrated CORE exercise? Not "burning off" the "gut fat" (see above).

I'm not saying we should never isolate muscles. I'm guilty of having a dedicated arm workout myself, and trying to get my scrawny calves to catch up to the rest of my legs is a journey unto itself. But I want to make sure you focus on the "why" question when you do any exercise, and be sure the answer is firmly rooted in science. Burning fat on your belly, as this article points out, is as much, if not more, about your diet than anything else.

So for the last time until next Thursday, remember the example of the Sumo wrestler: The most muscular and strong re**us abdominis in the world won't be visible to the naked eye if it's covered in a layer of body fat.

One more article about The Boss and his fitness at 64. My wife says I have a "bromance" with Bruce (hey, I've only seen him in concert 10 times). But the truth is, I'm just getting old myself, and I have mass respect for anyone who can do four-hour physical shows with no breaks at any age. Simply put, the old paradigm that you get old and broken down is no longer valid.

The Boss, on holiday in Spain, is pictured emerging from the sea in great shape, setting a new standard for the hot male body at 64. How does he maintain it?

I would add two more to this list. Low fat foods are usually high in sugar and/or salt, and they often have more calories than their regular counterpart. And unless you have been diagnosed with celiac disease, don't bother with gluten-free.

We all want to eat well and choose the healthiest eating plans, but separating nutrition fact from fiction can be tricky. Here are some persistent nutrition myths I often hear from friends, family and even the media, along with the facts to clear the

I don't really know who the first idgit was to equate losing fat with "burning" fat. I do know the result has been generation after generation of low-information consumers wasting money trying to "burn" fat by raising their body temperature.

To be clear: Dehydration is not the same as fat loss, end of. Wrapping yourself in layers of neoprene will NOT help you lose fat, and could cause heat stroke, not to mention heat rashes and body odor that could kill a goat from 100 yards. Seriously, these people expect you to believe you can wear these things all day, every day under your street clothes, and you'll sweat away the pounds without working or smelling like an NFL locker room. I'm not even sure how men are supposed to squeeze into these things, but I'm pretty sure they would serve as pretty effective birth control from crushing injuries, not to mention the odor when you walk into the room.

Save the $100 you would spend on this crap and buy some decent fruit and vegetables, and maybe, you know, some personal training sessions. Wear clothing that allows your skin to breathe, and stay hydrated, BECAUSE YOUR TRAINER SAID SO!

The Neotex™ smart fabric in Hot Shapers™ increases core temperature during excercise, sports, walk, run, baby walk, at home or any physical activity. Hot Shaperss™ clothing can be worn while active regardless of what you are doing… Just put them on and feel the results!!

After struggling with a mystery knee ailment for a few weeks, I decided to stay home and do a light leg workout, so I wouldn't be tempted to overdo it. The only kit I have is a TRX, which gave me plenty of variety. Still, I must have been quite a sight when I did step-ups on a dining room chair while holding the coffee table in one hand for added weight. Glad I thought to pull the blinds before that stunt.

Like Skechers and Reebok, Vibrams runs (ha!) into trouble with Johnny Law. I know people who swear by these things, but will the minimalist running shoe now become a footnote? (Footnote! Get it? I crack myself up!) Oh, wait, one more: Guess their researchers should have toed the line. Thank you, I'll be here all week.

Another athletic shoe company is caught flat-footed.
