Alex was on Garage Talk Online Unwrapped this week, and this was the line worth writing down.

Garages have a duty of care over where their tyres go. A collector still running on paper is a reasonable thing to ask about before October.

Where do the tyres go after the collector drives off?

October's Digital Waste Tracking changes apply to licensed receiving sites, so that answer is about to get a lot more visible.

Alex with Vicky and Ben Garage Talk Online. 35 minutes, worth it.

🛞 Where do your waste tyres really go?

50 million waste tyres are generated in the UK every year. But what happens to them once they leave your garage?

In the latest episode of Garage Talk Unwrapped - The Podcast (sponsored by BM Catalysts), we chat to Alex Guslisty from BIG ATOM about tyre disposal, recycling and the big DEFRA changes coming in October 2026.

Your tyre collector has until October.

The DWT changes apply to licensed receiving sites. What changes for a garage is who can legally take their tyres, and what they get asked to show at collection.

Alex Guslisty covers it on Garage Talk Online Unwrapped, out Wednesday 9 September.

We will share a link to the conversation on Wednesday, keep your eye peeled 👀.

A Waste Transfer Note is simply the record of a waste handover:

📋 What was collected
🚛 Who collected it
📍 Where it went

Keep it for two years - it’s the paper trail that helps prove you’ve met your duty of care.

Book your tyre collection through Big Atom, and your Waste Transfer Note lands in your portal automatically.

No chasing. No paperwork. It’s just there. 👉 Link in the comments.

Here's the journey.

A licensed operator collects your booked tyres. They move through the network to a licensed recycler. Every step is recorded, and your documents sit in your portal.

Your tyres don't just disappear. You can see where they went.

If the honest answer is "no idea", that's worth fixing.

Your "cheap" collector just fly-tipped your tyres. Guess who's liable?

You are.

Ask before you book: "Can I see your waste carrier licence?" 🪪

Your duty of care means your tyres stay your responsibility until they're in the right hands.

Every collection booked through Big Atom uses licensed operators. Every time.

We don't have to, but we share with you, the final destination of every tyre. We have your back.
