πŸ“Three Days
πŸ“Three Domestic Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Events

Over the past few days, Sharon Livermore MBE has been busy in her role as Domestic Abuse Consultant for Anglia Ruskin University, coordinating awareness events across Cambridge, Chelmsford and Peterborough.

It was fantastic to be joined by some of ARU's Student Domestic Abuse Awareness Ambassadors, along with Lata Gautam who's stand raised awareness of spiking, and a range of local support services who are making a real difference within our communities. πŸ’œ

These events created opportunities for meaningful conversations, increased awareness, and vital signposting to support. Every conversation matters, and for many people, awareness is the first step towards seeking help, supporting someone else, or recognising unhealthy behaviours.

A huge thank you to the external organisations that supported these events:
πŸ“ Cambridge – The Elms Sexual Assault Referral Centre
πŸ“ Peterborough – Peterborough Women’s Aid
πŸ“ Chelmsford – Next Chapter, Changing Pathways, Compass Essex and Essex Police's Reflect Campaign

Together, we are helping to ensure that support, information and hope are visible and accessible to those who need it most.

Trauma does not always stay in the past.

A smell.
A sound.
A court hearing.
A message.

For many victim survivors, trauma can be triggered long after abuse has ended.

Understanding trauma responses helps workplaces respond with compassion rather than judgment.

Awareness matters.

πŸŽ‰ What a whirlwind it has been! That's why we're only just getting around to sharing these photos today. πŸ“Έ

The Festival of Work at ExCeL London certainly didn't disappoint! πŸ™Œ We had over 150 enquiries, but the best part was that every one of these organisations recognised why domestic abuse is a workplace issue and the vital role employers can play in supporting those affected. πŸ’œ

We're already booked in for next year! πŸš€ But for now, it's time to follow up with all of our fantastic new connections and continue these important conversations. 🀝

This week alone, we've delivered virtual training sessions across technology, construction, financial services and hospitality with:

Nomura facilitated by This Can Happen
Pico Technology
Morgan Sindall
Kensington Mortgages
Compass Group

Every session is another opportunity to help workplaces feel more confident in recognising and responding to domestic abuse safely and appropriately.

One of the things we hear most often is:

"We were worried about saying the wrong thing."

That's exactly why workplace education matters.

Domestic abuse awareness is not about turning managers into experts. It is about helping people:

Recognise Concerns
Respond Safely
Understand Boundaries
Signpost Appropriately

Practical education creates safer workplace cultures for everybody.

Thank you to every organisation continuing to prioritise awareness, wellbeing and safeguarding.

We are incredibly proud to share that last night Domestic Abuse Education was awarded Silver for Business Innovation at the SME Business Awards Cambridgeshire πŸ†

This recognition means so much to us because innovation is at the heart of everything we do.

Our mission has always been to help organisations move beyond awareness and build the confidence, knowledge and practical tools needed to respond effectively to domestic abuse in the workplace.

Whilst we are honoured to receive this award, it is not something we have achieved alone.

Thank you to our clients who trust us to support their organisations.

Thank you to our ambassadors, partners and collaborators who help us extend our reach and impact.

Thank you to our incredible team of trainers and associates who bring expertise, passion and dedication to every session we deliver.

And thank you to everyone who continues to champion the message that domestic abuse is not just a personal issue; it is a workplace issue too.

Together, you have helped make Domestic Abuse Education an award-winning organisation, and for that we are truly grateful.

Here's to continuing to innovate, educate and create safer workplaces across the UK. πŸ’œ

Sharon definitely needed her Weetabix last week, as she clocked up hundreds of miles, but all in the name of raising awareness of domestic abuse and how employers can better support colleagues and employees affected by it.

Domestic abuse does not discriminate, and neither do we. 1 in 3 women, and 1 in 5 men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, therefore all the sessions we deliver are inclusive of all gender identities, so it was fantastic to be invited to deliver a session for Arc Group London Limited at their London offices, as part of their Safety Stand Down.

The audience was predominantly male, and it was encouraging to receive such positive feedback. Following the session there were questions asked and discussion around how easily some behaviours can become normalised for those experiencing abusive relationships.

A huge thank you to Arc Group for recognising domestic abuse as a workplace issue and for leading the way within your sector. By creating space for these conversations, you're helping to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and support those who may be affected.

Isolation is one of the most common tactics used in coercive control and narcissistic abuse.

It often happens gradually.

A partner may discourage contact with friends, create conflict within families, monitor communication, or make someone feel guilty for spending time with others.

Over time, many victim survivors become increasingly isolated from the people around them.

For some individuals, the workplace may become the only support network they have left.

That is why workplace awareness matters so much.

A supportive manager, a trained colleague, or a safe conversation at work could be a turning point in someone accessing help.

Understanding the signs of domestic abuse can make a life-changing difference.
