Engines like to be clean, both inside and out. This kind of neglect will soon lead to a visit to the repair shop - probably when it's least convenient! Basic washing of your mower can help prevent this. Just use soapy water and a brush. Don't worry, you won't hurt it. Just don't cover it with excessive amounts of water!

If you're not convinced about the value of regular servicing... Deposits of corrosion and carbon residue quickly build up in your engine, causing fuel blockages and eventually, failure to run at all.

Corrosion in the carburettor is a particular problem and accounts for nearly all of the engine problems I am asked to fix. It's an unfortunate by product of moisture getting into the fuel and quickly causes damaging residue to build up, blocking vital fuel channels and leading to your engine stopping as soon as you've started it or worse... Yuck!

Why is it important to keep your blades sharp?
Dull or blunt blades don't cut your grass, they bludgeon it to death!
You may think that your mower is cutting well, but if your blades are blunt they'll be doing the health of your lawn no favours.

Sharp blades will cut each blade cleanly which encourages healthy growth and a greener, thicker lawn.

You may thing that fuel is pretty clean stuff... However, if left unused for even a short period of time, fuel within the carburettor accumulates moisture which causes corrosion and sludge deposits to build up. These deposits will quickly block tiny jets within the fuel system causing difficulty starting, rough running and eventually a complete engine failure.
Always use fresh fuel and ensure that your machine is regularly serviced. Always drain the fuel system before storing over winter. If you can, run the engine for a few minutes every couple of weeks during the winter months. This will help prevent fuel system problems occurring when the spring arrives. 😎

A clean mower is a happy mower...
Dirt accumulation is one of the leading causes of mower failures. This carburettor was almost as dirty on the inside as it was on the outside! It required a full strip down and deep clean before being reassembled, adjusted and fitted. All working like new again. 😀
