Three months on from unveiling a complete business rebrand, it's time for me to be honest about what was really behind it... 🫣

I'd positioned myself around confidence growth for eight years and had become known as the go-to person for all-things confidence. I'd helped hundreds of business owners become richer and happier by making them more confident.

But something stopped working. I lost the enthusiasm. I stopped feeling excited. Which led to me showing up less. Which led to fewer clients. Which led to finding myself in the miserable position of trying to maintain the outward image of "successful entrepreneur who's totally crushing it" whilst ignoring internal self-doubt-bordering-on-existential-crisis.

Until finally I saw what had gone wrong.

Eight years earlier my positioning was perfect for who I wanted to help - early-stage sole traders who needed the confidence to charge their worth and show up as the face of their business. Over time my results, credibility, fees, clients and track record grew. But my business model, offers and positioning hadn't followed the same trajectory.

I'd outgrown my own business.

Through conversations with the brilliant Shari Teigman I found answers. The clients I work with now are not new to business. They're experienced, highly capable, well respected and ambitious. They know there's more to come, and they're frustrated that it's felt just out of reach for too long. They know there's a bottleneck in their business. And they suspect it might be them.

They're not looking for confidence. They're looking for upgrades. They're looking for someone who can show them what's getting in their way and help them make exactly the right tweaks: someone who can join the dots and bring them a genuinely game-changing combination of mindset coaching, business strategy and pure intuition.

Behind the scenes that's what I was already delivering. It was time to own it. And that's how Your Business: Upgraded was born.

I don't think it's a coincidence that to get to this point, I had to go through the same fears, frustration, anxieties and hope as my clients do. Because it means I get it. I know what it looks like - what it *feels* like - when your business hasn't caught up with who you've become.

Yesterday I spent a brilliant day with GwenGreen Creative Business Services mapping out the processes that live within my business. Seeing it all laid out like this showed me where the upgrade opportunities are. It also made me realise exactly how far I've come. I always find this time of year a bit strange in the online business world. Suddenly everyone is shouting about their Black Friday deals, slashing prices, bundling things together, and trying to convince you that this is the moment you absolutely must buy whatever they’re selling.

Sometimes I've been part of the noise. This year I don't want to be.

So I *am* still doing something for Black Friday but it’s not your usual discount code or digital free-for-all. It’s something far more meaningful, because it’s tied directly to the heart of what I do now.

Next week, I’m opening a Black Friday opportunity for just two people to bag a genuinely significant reduction when they work with me in my high-level one-to-one container, the Upgrade Partnership.

Because this year I'm not trying to shift seats or push a quick sale. The way I work has changed. I go deep. There's no more superficial one-offs. And so I'm inviting two people to join me on an exciting adventure as we make serious, intentional, permanent upgrades to how they run, lead and grow their business.

It won’t be first come first served. It won’t be a panic-and-click situation. Anyone interested will send in an expression of interest, I’ll invite the right people into a conversation, and I’ll offer the partnership to the two people who I know will get the most out of it.

I've been talking a lot lately about the importance of filling your business with the *right* people. Whether they're clients, colleagues or other connections - when you spend time with people who inspire and lift you, everything feels easier.

When I joined ONLE Networking and met its co-founder Kelly West, I knew instantly she was one of those people. Then I met the other co-founder James West and decided he needed to be part of my world too. They've worked together to create the type of networking that I love - the kind that's based purely on authentic, genuine connection.

So when James invited me onto ONLE Talks to share my story, tips and insights with the whole network, I was there quicker than you can say "send me your Zoom link"!

I've just spent a lovely half hour chatting to James about why so many business owners have the wrong idea about confidence, and about how we can use it strategically to upgrade our businesses in the most perfectly imperfect of ways.

At the wonderful Sisterhood in Session Live yesterday, I got to hang out with gorgeous humans like Anna and Lynsey. They've both been my clients They're also my friends.

As I chatted to them Janaina joined us - a brand new client about to start working with me (I can't wait!)

I joked to Janaina: "It's not unusual for my clients to become my friends - be warned!" But then I realised it wasn't actually a joke - it was the truth.

A couple of years ago I had difficult experiences with two different clients, and this make me decide to only work with people I like. After all, when you run your own business you shouldn't have to spend time dealing with people who drain you.

That decision - the choice to upgrade my clients - changed everything. Upgrading your clients can take many forms. The fact my client upgrade led to new friends too is just a massive bonus.

When I talk about having the courage to make business decisions that you feel great about - that could mean raising your visibility, getting brave with your pricing structure, distancing yourself from negative influences, or pitching to your fantasy clients.

I graduated with a coaching PGDip in June 2017 and started my coaching business a couple of months later. In the eight years since then, how many prospective clients do you think have asked about my qualifications?

Two.

I've coached hundreds of people in that time, and only two stopped to check I'm actually qualified to go rummaging around in their brains. People trust me with deeply personal and difficult stories, and I could do so much harm without the right training. That's scary.

Qualifications aren't everything. It's important to find a coach that you like; one with a proven track record; one who gets you and respects you. But while you're looking for all those things, take a minute to ask where and how they trained too. And if they can't answer clearly... keep looking.

When I work with you to upgrade your business, we look at every angle to find the upgrade opportunities. That will often include your pricing, your visibility, your messaging, your confidence...
.. and it will also include your circle. We'll look at who's in your network; who your friends are (in and out of business); who you spend time with. And we'll look at whether upgrades are needed.

That might sound mercenary, but it's not. When I talk about upgrading your circle I don't mean: "Only hang out with rich, influential people." I mean "Surround yourself with people who lift you; who have your back; who you know you can trust. Surround yourself with the people who say all the good things about you when you're not in the room."

When I met Tessy and she generously welcomed me into her community and extended her friendship to me, my circle was instantly upgraded. If you know who Tessy is, you'd be forgiven for misjudging me on that comment. But I'm not referring to the fact she's a former Princess, or that her community includes women I've admired from afar for years. I'm talking about the way Tessy embodies kindness and integrity; and the way she effortlessly lifts others while on her own incredible journey. I'm talking about the way it's impossible to not feel inspired and empowered when you're around her; and the way she opens doors for others - for no other reason than the fact that she can.

I love building tiny houses, and they all start life as a kit with a detailed instruction book that I follow step by step.

I’m a creative person. I could probably make something I love without a kit - if I watched tutorials, gathered materials, experimented with techniques. But TBH I don’t want to waste hours wondering if I’m doing it in the right order, or spend weeks redoing steps that could have been clear from the start.

Most business owners are great at setting goals.

But the truth is, a lot of those goals are designed for comfort, not growth.

We pick things that sound ambitious, but deep down, we already know how to get there. So we tick the box, hit the target, and call it progress - even when we know we’re capable of more.

Real progress happens when your goals ask more of you than your current habits, mindset and systems can deliver. When they stretch you just enough to bring out the next version of you - the one you know you’re ready to become.
