When did you last check your fire extinguisher?

It’s one of those things that’s easy to overlook, but if you ever need it, you can’t afford for it to fail. For businesses, annual servicing by a competent person isn’t just good practice; it’s a legal requirement.

In addition to annual servicing, you should check your extinguishers monthly. Here’s a checklist of what to look for:

- Is the extinguisher in date?
- Is it in visibly good condition?
- Has it been tampered with?
- Is the weight correct?
- Is the pressure dial pointing to the green?
- Does the pin work?
- Is the hose damaged?
- Are the instructions on the extinguisher legible?

It only takes a few minutes to check, but it could make all the difference in an emergency.

We're looking for an experienced Small Works / Service Manager to join our team.

This is a key leadership role combining technical expertise, team management, and customer-facing responsibility. You’ll oversee small works and minor installations from quotation to completion, manage day-to-day service and maintenance operations, and lead engineers to deliver high standards of quality, safety, and customer service.

The role includes:
• Managing small works, installations, and service delivery.
• Planning labour and materials to meet deadlines and budgets.
• Supporting technical design, costing, and fault diagnosis.
• Leading and developing engineers and admin staff.
• Acting as a key point of contact for customers.
• Ensuring compliance with NSI/SSAIB and relevant industry standards.

We’re looking for someone with strong fire and security systems knowledge (CCTV, intruder alarms, access control, fire alarms), proven team leadership experience, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.

Finally, some sunshine in the Southwest ☀️

Yesterday, we were at our long-standing client, the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre, doing an intruder alarm system upgrade. While the sea was still a bit wild, it made a nice change to experience some calmer weather and catch that rarity known locally as sunshine! It was short-lived 🌧
