We were pleased to hear one of our mediators featured on BBC World Service’s The Conversation: Resolving Conflict in Relationships, discussing family mediation and the impact separation can have on families.

These conversations matter as they help more people understand that there are supportive, child-focused ways to navigate conflict and separation.

Thank you to BBC World Service and presenter Ella Al-Shamahi for shining a light on this important topic.

Finding time for professional development isn’t always easy – especially when you’re balancing the day-to-day demands of family mediation (and life outside of work).

That’s why we’ve introduced a new series of 1-hour CPD webinars – designed for Family Mediators and to be practical, accessible, and easy to fit into your day.

Our first session focuses on a topic that’s increasingly important in mediation:

Practical ways to support neurodivergent clients

It’s a thoughtful, practical session aimed at helping mediators feel more confident supporting the diverse needs of the people they work with.

👉 You can find out more or book here: https://www.nfm.org.uk/events/1-hour-cpd-webinar-practical-ways-to-support-neurodivergent-clients-cpd1h261/

We’re also running other short sessions, including:
• Why do we do reflective practice?
• Thinking about the child in child arrangements
• Reflective supervision for PPCs

Separation can feel overwhelming especially when you’re trying to make the right decisions for your children 💛

We’re proud to be featured in The Divorce Magazine sharing why child-inclusive mediation matters now more than ever for separating parents.

This approach gives children a safe space to have their voices heard, helping parents better understand how separation is affecting them, and supporting more thoughtful, child-focused decisions moving forward.

If you’re navigating separation, understanding your child’s perspective can make a real difference.

Sarah Hawkins, CEO of National Family Mediation, explains why Child-Inclusive Mediation helps separating parents reduce conflict and better support their children.

Separating and worried about debt? 💳

When couples think about divorce or separating, they often focus on things like the family home or savings. But debts also need to be considered, and many people aren’t sure what happens to them after separation.

If a credit card, loan or overdraft is in joint names, both partners may still be responsible for it.

During Debt Awareness Week, we’re sharing guidance on one of the financial questions we hear most often in mediation.

If you're separating and worried about money, this guide may help 👉 https://www.nfm.org.uk/what-happens-to-debt-in-divorce/

Mother’s Day can bring up all sorts of emotions. So today we’re thinking about lots of different families.

🌼The mums celebrating with their children.
🌼Mums navigating the day after separation.
🌼Step-mums who care deeply for children in blended families.
🌼Dads who are doing both roles and giving their children the love and care they need.
🌼And those who find today difficult because their mum is no longer here.

Families can look very different, especially during and after separation. What matters most is the love, care and support children feel from the people around them.

If Mother’s Day feels a little complicated this year, we’ve shared some gentle advice on navigating the day after separation 👉 https://www.nfm.org.uk/managing-mothers-day-after-separation-or-divorce/

However today looks for you, we hope it brings a moment of kindness.💕
