Networking in Exeter: BNI City Wall

Each week at , one member delivers a 10-minute presentation to the room. Combined with a weekly 45-second pitch, these presentations help members understand exactly what we do, who we want to meet and how best to refer us. The result is a room full of informed advocates (and there are not many or marketing channels that can do that!)

This week’s presentation came from Colin Weston of Bredon Finance, a life and business insurance protection specialist.

Colin gave a very informative talk about the importance of protecting not only your family, but also your business against the unexpected, including critical illness, injury and death.

One of the key takeaways was that speaking to a specialist can unlock advice and support that may not be widely known about or available through online insurance brokers. This includes helping businesses prepare for what could happen if a key member of staff, director or shareholder became seriously ill, left the business or passed away.

Colin used a brilliant Jenga analogy, (complete with props 👏), to bring the message to life. If your financial foundations are not strong enough, removing one important piece can put the entire structure at risk.

It was a great reminder of the value of getting the right advice at key pivot points in both life and business.

A big thank you to Duncan Wightman for a highly informative 10-minute presentation on Howden Insurance

Duncan provided the members and visitors with a great overview of how Howden supports both individuals and businesses, and why honest, well-informed advice matters so much when it comes to insurance.

With 20 years at Howden, he shared useful insights into the value of local knowledge - from understanding flood risk areas around Exeter to helping customers find the right cover for high-value or non-standard properties - and why Howden have such a high trust rating and outstanding customer retention.

It was also a helpful reminder that many businesses and homeowners may be underinsured simply because they haven’t had proper advice.

Another great meeting, lots of useful conversations, and a brilliant reminder of why relationships and matter 🤝.

This week at City Wall, we heard from Connor Bowden of Yes Mortgage Services Ltd. who gave a fantastic presentation on how their award-winning mortgage advice service helps people with one of life’s biggest decisions — buying a home 🏡.

Connor talked us through the range of services they offer and reminded us why getting the right advice really matters. After all, even saving a small amount of 💷each month can add up to a very significant saving over the term of a mortgage.

As always, Connor’s dry humour brought plenty of smiles to the room on a grey, early morning.

A big thank you to Joy Parke for a fantastic 10-minute presentation at yesterday morning’s meeting.
