Did you know that yesterday's demolished building could become tomorrow's new road? 🚧

Inert construction waste, such as concrete, bricks, tiles and rubble, doesn't simply disappear when a project ends. At Coastal, our team processes these materials by sorting, crushing and screening them into different grades, including recycled aggregates and fines that can be reused across a range of construction and infrastructure projects.

By recovering and repurposing inert waste into recycled aggregates and fines, we help keep valuable resources in circulation and support more sustainable construction practices ♻

It's always inspiring to see Coastal compost helping the next generation grow their own food! 🌱🍓

A fantastic homeschool project in EX5 has just had another delivery of our compost. After last year's success getting the garden established, growing vegetables and fruit, they're now expanding the project with plans for a dedicated strawberry bed and a fruit cage full of raspberries.

We're proud to support our local community with sustainable, nutrient-rich compost that helps gardens thrive.

Good luck to the young gardeners. We can't wait to see the strawberry and raspberry harvests next year! 🌿

As temperatures rise, so does the risk of fires. But it's not only wildfires we're concerned about.

Since 1st June, we've dealt with 12 lithium-ion battery fires, including 3 incidents in just one day!

Too often, these fires are caused by batteries being thrown into household or commercial waste. Once damaged during collection or processing, they can ignite without warning.

Every battery placed in the wrong bin increases the risk of fire and puts our staff directly in harm's way.

A huge shout out to our recycling operatives, who regularly have to respond quickly and decisively when these fires occur. Their vigilance and actions help prevent small incidents from becoming major fires, protecting colleagues, facilities and the wider community.

Following a serious fire at our North Devon facility last October, we wrote this article which includes information on how to safely dispose of batteries 👉 https://coastaluk.co.uk/blog/lithium-ion-battery-fires/

Please don't put batteries in your bins. A few seconds spent disposing of them correctly could prevent a fire.

Huge thanks to our customer, M Group, for inviting some of our team to take part in their volunteering day at West Exe School, helping to create an inspiring outdoor space for SEN students.

Working together, we cleared garden areas, cut back overgrown vegetation, painted decking, and helped transform the space into a welcoming and usable environment for students and staff to enjoy.

We also donated 14 tonnes of compost to support the school's planting beds and growing areas.

A fantastic team effort that will leave a lasting legacy for the school community. 👏🌱

Some exciting awards news to start the week! 🎉

We’re thrilled to have been shortlisted in the Sustainability category at The Business Desk South West Business of the Year Awards.

Being named a finalist among so many exceptional businesses across the South West is an achievement we’re incredibly proud of. The process has been rigorous, from the initial application through to a site tour and presentation at our Exeter recycling facility.

Next up: the final pitch in September, where we'll be making our case for why we should lift the trophy.

A huge congratulations to all the other shortlisted organisations. We can’t wait to celebrate everyone's success at the awards ceremony in November! 👏

The Great Coastal Bake Off returned this week and once again we have been raising funds for the amazing InFocus Charity 🍰

Our bakers have delivered an incredible spread of sweet treats, from delicious homemade lemon drizzle cakes and show-stopping marble cakes to a few expertly selected creations from M&S, Sainsbury's and Lidl. Homemade or shop-bought, we're not fussy – as long as there's cake, we're happy!

We've had plenty of people stopping to admire the incredibly detailed skip lorry on reception... the question is: is it cake? 🎂🚛👀
