When rainfall moves fertiliser in release phase.
Before folks get excited this was after an hourly equivalent of 251mm/hr!!😱. Fortunately it was just a 10-15 minute burst or we’d be building an ark!!

Out having fun on tennis courts where the club is after improvements. Despite no irrigation after 4 weeks I thought they were doing pretty well!
The club has two routes to improve:
1. Strip off and re-grade and reseed or,
2. Improve through renovation work.
Lots to consider aside from this but nice to get involved in some tennis🙂

Continue to Learn had some excellent speakers and it was a real treat to listen (and at times contribute to) to Dr.John Dempsey, Dr.Frank Rossi, Drs. Stan Kosta and Michael Fidanza.
Continue to Learn has a great breadth of subjects and speakers and I really enjoy hearing the latest news in turf and soil ecology, physiology, biochemistry and IPDM. Some of this cutting edge detail will be finding its way into the maintenance programmes and will shape the future condition of my clients golf courses.
Day 3 calls now and I’d better hop off and find out about data recording golf balls and climate change management…😊

A busy week ahead with BTME looming and I’ll be up to Harrogate from Saturday until Thursday then on to some visits before heading home! Always amazed how construction companies working on s106 situations manage to not use good quality sports turf specialist contractors working to good specifications.
Here we have a great example of drains not covering a whole pitch area and spacing varying across the pitch 350cm next gap 425cm…
This is also the hardest pitch I’ve ever tested at 250+ gravities on many measurements and the penetrometer bottoming out at 350psi in just getting into the surface!
This will be an interesting job!!😱

Out and about yesterday at Sherborne Golf Club in perfect weather.. just cool enough not to suffer but sunny enough to enjoy the course and see it starting to present for club championships this Saturday. It’ll be a gruelling 36 hole day where both player and putting surfaces are in for a roasting!🥵
In discussion with Scott, the Course Manager, we formed our plan to ease our way in and out trying to give peak performance within constraints and ensure we don’t blow the greens up in the heat that is due to bite.
Sadly, I learned of the death of Phil Gamble who I’ve known for 23 years who was both General Manager and interested member after retiring from the role. Ever the gentleman, with wit and care he supported the Greenkeeping team and Course Managers of the club all the way. As a man I had the utmost respect for him and wish more clubs had men/women of his calibre to hand supporting the Greenkeeping crews and their work and take an interest in their clubs. RIP Phil I will certainly miss you.
