Excuse us for getting serious for a second, but this drought and what it's doing to our landscape makes it impossible not to say something.

There's an assumption that fly tipping, dumping and littering happen because people are trying to make it harder, or more expensive, to get rid of waste properly. But whether it's fires started by batteries dumped incorrectly, or the risk of litter sparking wildfires, doing it properly matters more than ever.

We never thought we'd be using the words "wild fire" about the UK, but here we are, because of how we treat our planet. "What we dump is our children's legacy" has been our mantra for decades, and it's because every bit of waste comes with a debt attached.

So if you're having a clear out, please get rid of your waste properly, with a certified waste team that won't just send it all to landfill. It doesn't have to be us. But it does have to be someone.

At Fakenham Skips, we work hard to divert 98% of the waste we collect from landfill.

But what does that mean? Well for our on site processing plant that means that we sort and recover your waste in a variety of ways:

Concrete Waste:
Concrete waste is carefully processed and crushed so that it can be reused as recycled aggregate. This reduces the need for newly quarried materials and gives concrete waste a second life in construction and groundwork projects.

Garden Waste:
Soil, grass cuttings, branches and plant material is separated and sent for composting wherever possible. This allows organic waste to break down naturally and be reused for agriculture and land improvement, returning nutrients back to the soil.

Paper and Cardboard:
Paper and cardboard waste is separated and prepared for recycling so it can be processed into new paper products. This reduces the need for raw timber, supporting more responsible use of natural resources.

Plastics and uPVC:
Plastics and uPVC waste such as packaging, sheeting and building components are sorted for reprocessing. They can be reused for new products, reducing waste and demand for newly manufactured plastics.

Metals:
Steel, aluminium, copper and pipework is separated from mixed waste streams. Ferrous metals are removed using magnets while others are sorted by hand. Once processed, they can be melted down and reused, reducing the need for raw material extraction and keeping valuable resources in circulation.

And that's not all, we are working towards a 100% landfill diversion rate by 2030.

Fakenham might be home, but when it comes to skips, we get out and about more than people realise.

We cover a big stretch of North Norfolk, from Downham Market in the west, across to Norwich, over to Cromer in the east and up to Hunstanton in the north. That's a fair chunk of some of the prettiest parts of the county.

So even if you're nowhere near Fakenham, there's a good chance we're still your nearest skip company.

Here you go then, a much-requested and absolutely necessary Gamble the puppy update.

Swipe to see just how much he's grown, we can't believe how big he's getting. The perfect office mascot.

One like = one pet, so make sure you like the photo so he gets a fuss.

Huge thanks to Bridget for her recent review.

We work hard on being easy to deal with; we don't make it complicated to make changes, extend, or delay. It's our job to work that out, and your job to place an order and get to work on that clear-out, renovation or garden tidy-up.

Don't forget to say well done to the team for all their hard work, especially in this hot weather.

Man with a van vs skip hire. Here's what you need to know.

Sometimes a smaller job doesn't need a skip. A trip to the tip might do it, and if you can't get there yourself, a one-off collection could be a good option.

Before you decide though, it's worth making a few checks:
Have a look that the person you've hired is a registered waste carrier, which is easy to do by running their name through the Environment Agency's public register.

Make sure you haven't got anything hazardous in there, as more things fall into that category than you might think.

Lastly, it's worth knowing where it all ends up, because with temperatures hitting record highs we can't ignore the environmental impact of what we do, so knowing whether that waste goes to landfill or not is worth a check.

If you've got a slightly bigger job, or you want to be certain the waste chain includes recycling, then skip hire might be the better option for you.

Not sure, give us a call. We're here to help and chat through what you need: 01328 862659

Plasterboard CAN'T go in with general waste. You might be thinking, what's the big deal, why not?

Well it comes down to the gypsum. Gypsum has a lot of sulphates and when it's mixed with biodegradable waste it kicks off a process called putrefaction, releasing hydrogen sulphide which is harmful to your health.

Once it's mixed in with general waste it crumbles and becomes almost impossible to separate and recycle into new plasterboard. That's why we always ask the question and why we offer plasterboard skips for certain jobs.

Not sure what waste you have or where it should go? We're always around for a chat. But remember...

When in doubt, keep it out.
