From tomorrow (Friday 27th March) Police Scotland will have additional powers. They wi be able to question individuals as to the reason why they are out of their house, if they do not have a reasonable grounds then they can be fined. Similarly, non-essential businesses that stay open, Police will have the power to serve you with a Prohibition Notice and instruct you to shut down.

My hope is these powers will rarely be used or needed, as we expect the vast majority will comply. But be warned, if necessary Police Scotland will use them.

- Several people have been rescued after getting trapped at the top of Blackpool Tower when a fire broke out. - Firefighters spent three and a half hours tackling a blaze which broke out on the roof of the iconic landmark.
