Happy birthday to my business!

2 years ago today I launched SW Virtual Business Assistant. I still remember how I felt; excited, nervous, hopeful but more than that... determined.

I have worked with, and continue to work with wonderful people in various industries providing various admin tasks.

It's funny, but doing the admin for a small business, isn't just about completing tasks, it's being part of their journey too. It's helping them to grow, relieving their pressure, and being their support and in return, they have helped my business grow.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far either by recommending me, sharing my posts or becoming a client. Here's to the next year 🥂.

Are you looking forward to the year ahead? Have you recorded all of the bank holidays in your calendar including the additional Queens Jubilee? If not, ask your PA or VA to do it for you!

Top tip: book your annual leave around the bank holidays and enjoy an extended break.

I was really pleased to receive this feedback from Dawn after minuting a meeting for her. Not only is it fantastic to hear she was pleased with my work but it was equally as important to hear that my work helped her to have a better work/life balance.

Fun fact Friday - trees are great at collaboration and they communicate through the Wood Wide Web (I kid you not!).

The trees and the fungi on their roots have a symbiotic relationship and exchange resources. They also support any trees surrounding them that are struggling by providing nutrients to keep it going (building a strong community to protect them all from strong winds etc). This is what is referred to as the Wood Wide Web.

When a tree is attacked by caterpillars and the branches get too heavy, they change the tanning levels in their leaves to make them unpalatable but they also send out a pheromone to the surrounding trees to do likewise so they don't get attacked.

Some trees even communicate with insects - a pine tree will release a pheromone to attract ladybirds when it attacked by aphids!

Aren't trees amazing??!!

Today is my business' 1st birthday!

After 2 months of planning, reading and chatting to another VA, I took the plunge and launched SW Virtual Business Assistant.

I have been really fortunate to work with some amazing people over the past year either on little projects or on an ongoing basis.

I have been supported by my amazing family and friends and have met some lovely VAs who have demonstrated our ethos of 'collaboration not competition'.

Thank you to everyone who has believed in me over this past year and supported me so far.

And thank you to my amazing husband who decorated my desk this morning as well as buying the birthday cake!

Top tip Tuesday.

I was recently working with a PA who was having problems inserting slides into an existing PowerPoint in SharePoint. I showed her how to use the 'reuse slides' function rather than copying and pasting which did the trick. So I thought this might be something which others might find useful.

So yesterday I missed being in an office, I missed the chatter and the buzz of being around people for the very first time since I left "proper" employment.

Normally I'm too engrossed in my work to notice or I have the radio on or my dog makes his presence known but yesterday felt quiet.

So what did I do about it? I booked onto a Your Partnerships virtual meeting and arranged to catch up with some friends on Teams.

Think we all have days like this, regardless of whether we are lone workers by trade or having to work at home at the moment.
