Donating unwanted clothes and shoes for reuse and recycling is a great way to help reduce what goes to landfill so I was surprised to find a couple of my local Salvation Army donation bins had been removed, especially as I had a boot-load of donations.

I got in touch with the Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL) which operates over 7,000 clothing banks and 250 stores on behalf of its parent charity and they said that it’s adjusting its clothing bank network in response to changing market trends, as well as introducing new services.

This means that some clothing banks are being removed, which SATCoL says will enable it to minimise costs, maximise fundraising capabilities, and redirect resources to other reuse and recycling services, such as The Salvation Army’s Donate By Post service, which offers a free and convenient way to donate.

In the run-up to Christmas, now is a good time to sort through your Christmas decorations and children’s toys and donate any unwanted ones to your local charity shops.

Donations of Christmas decorations and children’s toys are more use to charity shops before Christmas when families will be looking to buy them. It makes the toy sort a bit easier, too, before children receive more as presents.

As part of my own Autumn reset, I’ve sorted my shoe rack and switched my summer and winter shoes so my winter shoes are easily accessible on the middle shelves.

I’ve also rationalised my shoes, donating any almost new shoes that I’m unlikely to wear again to a local charity shop. There’s no point keeping them when someone else can get some use out of them.
