Last week we shared news about Google’s upcoming changes to search. That change is now officially rolling out in the UK.

Google has launched a new feature called “AI Mode” which gives users AI-generated answers in a more conversational style, instead of the traditional list of website links.

This is a big step forward in how we interact with search. But it also raises important questions. If users are getting answers without visiting websites, what does this mean for the businesses and publishers that rely on search traffic?

Some organisations are already seeing a drop in clicks since the introduction of Google’s AI Overviews, and the full impact of AI Mode is still to be seen.

It’s a significant shift and one we’ll continue to monitor closely.

The new tool marks a significant change for the search giant but raises questions for advertisers.

Windows 10 support is ending in 3 months. Are you ready?

Microsoft is officially ending support for Windows 10 on October 14th, 2025. That means no more updates, security patches, or bug fixes unless you qualify for a paid extension.

If your organisation is still using Windows 10, now is the time to prepare. We’ve broken down:

✔️ Who’s affected
✔️ What the exceptions are
✔️ What you need to do next

Some major news has come out of Google in the past couple of weeks that you may have missed and it could have a huge impact on how we search online, and even the future of the web itself.

You’ve likely already seen the ‘AI Overviews’ appearing at the top of your search results, where Google provides instant, AI-generated answers to your queries.

Google has now announced plans for a full AI search mode – a ChatGPT-style experience where users interact with an AI assistant directly within search. And they’ve made it clear that this is the direction that they see search heading in.

This could have huge implications to the web in general.

If users are getting answers without visiting websites, it could significantly disrupt online traffic, publishing, and even the value of websites themselves.

It’s early days and there are still many unknowns, but one thing is clear: Google is fully embracing AI.

We’ll be watching this closely and will keep you updated as things develop.

Security researchers have uncovered what's being called the biggest leak in history - a staggering 16 billion login credentials have been exposed.

While this wasn’t a single company breach, the data includes access to major services like Google, Apple, Facebook, VPNs, developer platforms, and more, making it a serious risk for identity theft, phishing, and account takeovers.

Here’s what you should do now:

✅ Check if your email or password has been exposed at haveibeenpwned.com
✅ Switch to passkeys – supported by Google, Apple, and Facebook
✅ Use a password manager to avoid reusing logins
✅ Turn on multi-factor authentication for all services
✅ Adopt a zero-trust approach to secure internal access

Passwords remain widespread, but the move to passkeys is accelerating offering a safer, easier way to protect your accounts.

In light of several very public cyber attacks over the past month, a lot of businesses are asking the same question. How can we be sure our systems are properly protected?

One method is to carry out a pe*******on test (also known as a pen test). It's a controlled way to uncover weaknesses in your IT systems before cybercriminals do.

In our latest blog post, we break down:

🔵What a pen test actually involves (in plain English)
🔵How long they take and what the process looks like
🔵Which businesses particularly benefit from them
🔵Why pen testing is just one part of building strong cybersecurity

Even the UK’s biggest names aren’t immune to cyber attacks.

In recent weeks, household brands like M&S, Co-Op and Harrods have all been hit by major ransomware incidents — disrupting online orders, shutting down systems and costing millions in lost sales.

These attacks all followed a similar pattern:
🔵 A phishing email
🔵 Admin accounts accessed
🔵 Ransomware spread across networks

So how can you keep your business protected?

✅ Train staff to spot phishing
✅ Limit admin access across your systems
✅ Use modern endpoint protection
✅ Regularly review and baseline your IT security

At Coretek, our Security Baselining service helps reduce risk, protect client data and ensure your defences are working.

If you’d like to make sure your business is protected, let’s talk.

Hot on the heels of World Password Day, where we discussed the future of passwords, Microsoft has made a significant move: all new Microsoft accounts are now passwordless by default.

This change means new users will no longer be forced to create traditional passwords and Microsoft are recommending that users move over to passkeys instead.

A passkey is a simple and secure way to log into your accounts using things that you physically possess - like your face, fingerprint, or a phone prompt.

Microsoft reports that passkey logins are eight times faster and far more secure than passwords, which are regularly targeted by over 7,000 attacks per second.

If you have any questions about what’s right for your business, we're here to help. We can advise what options are available and how to get started.

Microsoft wants to remove passwords altogether, starting by making passkeys the default option for new accounts.
