There's something about being around a festival all weekend, even without being on the site itself, that gets under your skin a bit.

🎶The music carrying across the city.

🎤Crowds in good spirits heading to and from the seafront.

🌅That particular buzz Portsmouth gets for exactly one weekend a year.

We weren't working Victorious this time, but plenty of our jobs sat right on the edge of it, and the team's genuinely enjoyed being part of the atmosphere all the same.

Chatting with all the festival goers.

Helping to take pics and pointing people in the right direction.

Kasabian close it out tonight, and it feels like a fitting way to wrap up a brilliant few days for the city.

Richard Ashcroft opens the Common Stage tonight, and with a crowd that size, tempers can flare over the smallest things.

A spilled drink, a bit of pushing near the barrier, someone cutting a queue.

If you feel it building around you, the best thing you can do is not get involved yourself.

💡Find a steward or a security team member and let them handle it.

It's not about being passive, it's that de-escalation is a genuine skill, and it's their job for a reason.

Getting in the middle of it rarely helps and can easily make things worse.

We're not personally working the festival this weekend, but Portsmouth's our patch, so we'll be in and around it regardless.

And we've run security on our fair share of festivals over the years, which means we've seen pretty much every trick in the book.

Genuinely, we admire the creativity.

But smuggling alcohol onto site isn't just a bit of fun.

⚠️Unmarked bottles mean nobody knows what's actually in them or how strong it is.

⚠️It puts more pressure on welfare and medical teams who are already stretched looking after a lot of people.

⚠️And it gets around the checks that are there to keep everyone, including you, safer for the day.

Right, that's the sounding-like-your-mother bit out of the way.

Enjoy the festival. Be safe. And if you spot the Blayde team around and about on your way to or from the site, say hi, grab a selfie, and tag us in it.

Not every check-in is about security in the traditional sense.

Sometimes it's just making sure someone's alright.

During extreme heat, our teams keep an eye out for more than just site safety.

Elderly visitors, people who look unsteady on their feet, anyone who might need water or a moment in the shade.

It's a small part of the job, but it's one we take seriously.

Especially at places like West Witterings carpark in this heatwave.

Security isn't only about watching for trouble.

It's also about noticing when someone needs a hand, and being the kind of visible, approachable presence people feel comfortable turning to.

That's the standard we hold our teams to, heatwave or not.

Heat doesn't cause conflict.

It just shortens the fuse on conflict that was already there. 💣

A minor disagreement that would normally fizzle out in five minutes can boil over fast when everyone involved is overheated, dehydrated and running on less patience than usual.

That's exactly the kind of moment trained security staff are built for, not muscle, but the ability to read a situation early and step in before it escalates.

This is the part of the job that rarely gets talked about.

Conflict de-escalation isn't about presence alone.

It's a skill, and it's the difference between a situation that gets managed and one that gets out of hand.

POV: you're security in the never-ending UK heatwave… 🥵

You clock it before anyone else does.

Someone's shoulders are up, their voice is getting louder, the queue's testing everyone's last nerve.

That's the moment. 🤏

Not by adding more heat, we've all had enough of that already, but by being the calm one in the room.

Cool, collected, and there to resolve tension rather than add to it.

So you pull them aside.

A chat, a vent, a moan, whatever they need to let off that steam somewhere that isn't the middle of a packed pub, reception area, or shopping centre.

Same instinct whether it's the bus station at The Hard on a Saturday afternoon or the carpark at West Wittering on the busiest day of summer.

Keep it under control, keep it a good environment for everyone else too.

That's the job most people never clock is happening. 👇

Bank holidays follow a pattern.

👉More people out.

👉👉More properties sitting empty.

👉👉👉More going on than a normal weekend, all at once.

This one's no different, especially with Victorious wrapping up right before it and the city still busy from the weekend before.

Empty offices, quiet school sites, businesses closed for the extra day.

All the usual gaps, just for longer than a normal Saturday night.

Worth a quick check before it starts. Is your alarm response covered? Does anyone know who to call if something goes off on Monday?

Every bank holiday weekend, Portsmouth looks completely different. 🎪

Victorious Festival brings tens of thousands of people into the city across the 28th to 30th of August, and a lot of them pass through the same places our team is already working, day in, day out…

Specifically, The Hard.

Busier than usual, but not unfamiliar to us.

We're there year round, so festival weekend just means more faces, more questions, and more people to help find their way rather than anything out of the ordinary for us.
