One of the most persistent heat pump myths is that they stop working once it gets properly cold. They’re built for exactly that. Modern air source heat pumps are designed to run through winter conditions, with the system working harder as the temperature drops rather than giving up.
What decides how well that works in practice is the design behind it: the heat loss of the property, the radiators or underfloor heating, the required flow temperature, and the size of the heat pump itself.
Get those right and a heat pump keeps doing its job through a British winter.
For Heat Pump Day, that’s the myth worth retiring.
