Today we held our annual Engagement Day at Wakeley Tree Surgeons — and it was one to remember.

The focus was simple: realistic training, real scenarios, real learning.

We ran a series of live simulations designed to reflect the environments our teams face every day. This included a staged road traffic collision with actors and realistic casualty effects, pushing our teams to respond under pressure. We also delivered a simulated electric line strike using flash bangs and smoke to recreate the hazards of working near live utilities.

Alongside the practical elements, we held important discussions around ecology — focusing on protected species, legal responsibilities, and how we can continue to carry out our work without causing disturbance to the environments we operate in.

To round off the day, teams took part in a tower-building challenge, and we showcased a live demonstration of the Magni Roto — highlighting the capabilities of modern equipment when used safely and effectively.

A big thank you to SSE plc for attending and supporting the day, and to everyone involved who fully committed, got stuck in, and made it a success.

Days like this reinforce what we stand for — safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

At Wakeley Tree Surgeons, we know that our people are our greatest asset — and taking the time to recognise that is just as important as the work we deliver.

Today, we held our Employee Thank You Day, bringing the whole team together for a well-earned break and a chance to focus on something that matters just as much as safety and performance… mental health.

We kicked things off LOCHTER FISHERY LIMITED , where the team got stuck into go karting, blind driving and clay pigeon shooting. Plenty of laughs, a bit of healthy competition, and a great opportunity for everyone to switch off from the day-to-day pressures of the job.

Afterwards, we came together at J G Ross (Bakers) Limited for a company briefing and our annual review. This gave us the chance to reflect on the past year, recognise achievements across the business, and set our focus for the year ahead.

In our line of work, both physical and mental resilience are key. Days like this are about more than just a thank you — they’re about creating a culture where people feel valued, supported, and able to talk openly.

A big thank you to the whole Wakeley team for your continued hard work and commitment. We’re proud of what we’re building together.

Huge congratulations to William Holben on passing his Level 3 Apprenticeship!

Completing a Level 3 apprenticeship is a fantastic achievement and a real testament to William’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to developing his skills to a high professional standard. Balancing hands-on experience with structured learning is no small task — and William has done exactly that.

Now officially qualified as a climber, this is a major milestone in William’s career. It reflects not only his technical ability, but also the trust, responsibility, and professionalism that come with working at height and delivering high standards on site.

To mark the occasion, our Director proudly presented William with his certificate — along with a well-earned axe to celebrate the achievement. A great moment and a fitting way to recognise the hard work he’s put in throughout his apprenticeship.

A brilliant achievement and a strong foundation for the next stage of his career.

Well done, William — very well deserved!

Wakeley Tree Surgeons take pride in supporting local talent where we can, and we are delighted to once again support Tyler on his basketball journey. All the best for the coming year Tyler.

Below is a message from Tyler's family.

"Feeling incredibly grateful and wanted to take a moment to say a massive thank you to Wakeley Tree Surgeons for sponsoring my son, Tyler, for his third season of basketball.

Wakeleys support has helped Tyler push through Scotland U14, U15 and U17 trials, and is now helping Tyler take the next steps as he gets the chance to have a ‘look at life’ at two different colleges south of the border, where he can study and play the sport he loves!

Wakeley's have contributed well over £4,000 towards Tyler’s journey, immensely helping to ease the financial burden that comes with playing high level sport.

This has contributed towards subs, trips, fuel, accommodation, kit and of course the endless stream of basketball boots!

It’s hard to put into words how much this has meant to us as a family.

Opportunities like this don’t come around often, and I know just how lucky we’ve been.

A special thank you to Andy, whose support has been nothing short of incredible. His generosity and belief in Tyler has made a real difference, and we could never put into words our gratitude!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you"
