Our Director, Paul Simms, had an inspiring time at the RIBA UK Members Forum 2025 in London this week.

From powerful discussions on ethical practice to workshops on leadership and growing local networks, it was a fantastic chance to connect with fellow RIBA branch chairs and celebrate the impact of volunteers nationwide.

Lots of fresh ideas to bring back to the Canterbury and District Branch and continue strengthening our local architectural community.

Every year the RIBA Canterbury and District Branch recognises the achievements of the architecture students at the University of the Creative Arts in Canterbury by awarding a prize to the most outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate students. Congratulations to the winners Sara Rahali and Hirad Mohebi and to all exhibitors who contributed to the amazing end of year show

Inspired as always by the exceptional quality of design work on show at the opening of “We Made This”, the end of year show at the Kent School of Architecture. It was also a great opportunity to connect with colleagues from the University, RIBA members, local practices and a few faces I haven’t seen for a while

Exciting things are coming to Folkestone! As both locals and residents of the Creative Quarter, we were thrilled to attend the Folkestone Triennial 2025 artist announcement last night. We’re especially excited because many of us work in and live in Folkestone, so this year’s theme ‘How Lies the Land?’ feels incredibly close to home. From 19 July – 19 October, 18 artists from 16 countries will transform our town’s landscapes—cliffs, railways, and coast—with powerful, site-specific artworks. Curated by Sorcha Carey, this edition promises immersive installations, soundscapes, and unexpected encounters in the very places we walk by every day. We are looking forward to experiencing our hometown in a whole new way!

As part of our commitment to continued professional development as a RIBA chartered practice, we attended today’s session on Fire Safety in Flat Roofing presented by Polyroof Products. Fire safety is a crucial part of what we do and today’s session gave our team at Profile Architects some valuable insights into protecting buildings and the people inside them. Big thanks to RIBA and Polyroof for an insightful and well-delivered session

The fourth member of the Profile team is Paul Simms, a RIBA chartered Architect with over 25 years of experience having grounded his career at prominent London firms such as Foster and Partners, Make Architects, and Future Systems. Coming up next is Oscar, he’s our Part I Architectural Assistant. He’s been passionate in architecture and design since he knew the words. He has been living in Folkestone nearly a decade and is dedicated to creating structures worthy of such a brilliant town. Every building should be an evolutionary product of its environment and Folkestone Creative Quarter is the best place to make it happen. Starting his Part-time Masters this September he is excited to head back into higher education alongside professional practice.

Next up on our meet the team series is Talia who is our Part I Architectural assistant. She has always had a passion for art and design, which has naturally led her to pursue a career in architecture, where she combines her artistic flair with her keen eye for detail. In addition to her architectural pursuits, Talia has a strong affinity for interior design and interior architecture. She enjoys the challenge of matching furniture with colour, texture, and form to create spaces that are both beautiful and functional. When she’s not immersed in the world of design, Talia can be found spending time with her two beloved dogs – a golden retriever and a sausage dog – enjoying weekend walks and adventures. Her love for travel also fuels her curiosity, as she loves exploring new countries and immersing herself in different cultures.
