Recent life experiences have changed the way I view work quite a lot.

A few years ago I probably found the whole “busy all the time” thing more impressive than I do now. The constant scaling, the packed calendars, the being permanently at capacity because it meant things were going well.

Now I think I’m much more interested in businesses that are actually sustainable; creatively, operationally, personally. Businesses that can grow without absolutely consuming the person behind them.

Maybe because I’ve spent the last year trying to work around nap schedules and nursery bugs and tiny people climbing on me while answering emails 😅 but I just don’t think permanent overwhelm should be the goal anymore.

It does feel like more people are questioning that now though, especially small business owners. And honestly I think that shift is probably going to create much better businesses in the long run.

Certainly the kind I’m interested in working with anyway.

Phew. Where did I go?

I had a baby. And then tried to carry on working as if I hadn’t… which, unsurprisingly, didn’t quite work.

So things went a bit quiet here while I figured out how to do both life and work in a way that actually feels sustainable.

Now she’s nearly one, and I’m coming back to work with a bit more clarity, a bit more energy, and a lot more intention.

Over the past year, I’ve been quietly supporting a brilliant parenting consultant as she built something new. Working alongside someone so ambitious and thoughtful has given me space to reflect on my own work too.

I’m not rushing anything. No big launch. Just getting back to doing work I care about, properly.

More to come, slowly.

Networking like a toddler. Here are some tips I have learned from my 2 year old.

🛝Go where your people are: We go to soft plays and parks because that’s where other kids with similar interests are. So why do I keep trying to fit myself into situations where I feel awkward or off balance? I could just go to events I actually want to be at and meet people naturally.

👋Just say hi: The other day, my toddler walked up to a little girl, said “Hi, what’s your name?” and off they went to play. I was honestly shocked. But why? That’s a totally normal way to start a conversation when you don’t have that little voice in your head overthinking everything.

🍪Snacks help: Conversation just flows better when there’s a snack or a coffee involved. Simple but effective.

👧🏽Be yourself: My toddler doesn’t overthink what she’s wearing or how she’s coming across. She just wants to wear what makes her happy, sometimes that’s even a princess dress to go to the shops. Why stress about looking a certain way when you’ll feel (and come across) so much better just being comfortable and confident?

Might start taking more notes from her.

Is it a red flag for you if a social media manager’s account isn’t super active? 🤔I’ve been thinking about this as I start to get into a proper routine now that my daughter is in nursery (finally!). December was chaos with Christmas parties and closures—she only ended up going to nursery four days the entire month! 😅Now that things have calmed down, I’m realising I’ve let my own marketing slide. I spend all my “work” time focused on clients, and when it comes to working on my own socials, it’s so hard to make myself do work I’m not getting paid for! Can anyone else relate? But I’m wondering… does this hurt my business? Does it give off the wrong impression? 🤷‍♀️

I’m a Hypocrite.

I tell all my clients all the time: “Post pictures of yourself on social media. People buy from people!” I preach that stories don’t need to be perfect or overly aesthetic—they’re just a genuine way to connect.

And yet… look at my feed. It’s mostly Cava tiles and rarely any stories, let alone the twice-a-week minimum I push my clients to follow! 😅

So here I am, practicing what I preach. Reintroducing myself—because if I’m telling you to be more visible, I should lead by example.

Hi, I’m Poppy. 🙋‍♀️

Your go-to for helping you stand out online (and working on that myself). Let’s all show up, unapologetically imperfect!

My biggest dream for my business isn’t just about success or financial freedom. It’s about creating a life where I can support our family in a way that allows my amazing husband —the most wonderful, dedicated, and patient father—to stay home with our daughter.

I’ve seen firsthand how incredible their bond is. They bake together, explore the world through long conversations about animals and new things, and play in a way that feels effortless. While I absolutely love being with her, I know that he is simply better at making those special moments magical.

It’s been a long journey for us. We met over 12 years ago working at him in the kitchen and me front of house. From there, we’ve worked together in so many ways—running a French-style bistro, working in weddings, and finding ways to balance our passions and family life.

But now, as I’ve started my own business, I can see the potential for something truly magical—a future where he doesn’t have to work the long hours he does now, where we don’t have to miss him so much during those busy summers, and where we can switch roles to create more balance for our family.

It’s a big dream, but I believe in it with all my heart. ❤️

“Still okay for tomorrow, Poppy”
“Boom! Let’s get this marketing 💩sorted”
“How my midlife crisis turned my career around”

These are all marketing emails I received and opened because I wanted to know more about the content of the email.
When crafting your campaign the subject line is arguably the most important part because if your email doesn’t get opened then all the amazing content inside is wasted.
Top tips:
💌Keep it short and sweet, around 40 characters max.
💌 Avoid using all caps (this might send it straight to junk)
💌 Make it interesting, clear and relevant to the email body.
