Further Changes to the Job Support Scheme to help employers through these unprecedented times.

Further Changes to the Job Support Scheme to help employers through these unprecedented times.

Today I announced I will significantly increase the generosity of our winter support schemes to ensure livelihoods and jobs across the UK continue to be protected in the difficult months to come, supporting jobs and helping to contain the virus.

Firstly, we're making the Open Job Support Scheme more generous to protect jobs in businesses facing lower demand.

- The Government will now pay at least 62% for hours not worked
- Employer contribution will be cut from 33% to 5%
- Employees now take home at least 73% of pay for working a new minimum of 20% of hours

We're also increasing the generosity of self-employed grants from 20% to 40%, meaning the maximum grant will go up from ÂŁ1,875 to ÂŁ3,750.

Grants are available for all self-employed people (all alert levels) who've stopped trading or have a significant fall in trade, with two further payments to come, with a further grant to follow for February to April.

Finally, I'm introducing a new grants scheme for businesses impacted by high alert level restrictions, even if they aren’t legally closed.

I’m providing enough funding to give every business in the hospitality, leisure and accommodation sectors a direct grant worth up to £2,100 – for every month high alert level restrictions apply.

Will be working for the 34th consecutive day tomorrow. Sleeping in the spare office for coming up to 4 weeks. Mostly doing 12-16 hour days. New ways to calculate furlough payments were advised today from HMRC after weeks of working them out. Looking after our clients in the most difficult of times. It is worth it. Keep safe and well everyone. Looking forward to being able to pop to the pub for a pint.
