Turns out branding and packaging isn’t just about “making it look nice”.

Japanese snack giant Calbee has had to temporarily switch some of its packaging to black and white because global conflict has disrupted supplies of materials used in coloured inks.

Which is a pretty wild reminder that design decisions sit much closer to real-world business, manufacturing and supply chains than people sometimes realise.

Also… fair play to whoever designed the emergency black and white packets because honestly? They still look pretty cool!

Good design still works when you strip things right back.

(And yes, somewhere a minimalist designer is absolutely thriving right now.)

Some projects stay with you.

Recently we had the honour of working with our client Lorraine from Riverstone Counselling on the visual identity for the Ryan Castle Foundation, a charity she is setting up in memory of her son, Ryan.

Ryan died from brain cancer in 2021, aged just 21. In the time he had left, he was determined to help others, supporting charities and sharing his experience so people felt less alone. Before he died, he asked his mum to continue that work in his name.

The Ryan Castle Foundation will offer free counselling to people aged 18–40 who are living with a terminal illness, and to their families.

The foundation is now in the process of becoming official, and Lorraine is raising funds to help get it off the ground and reach the people who need it most.

REALLY delighted to see our clients Wild Northumbrian on the latest season of Robson Green's weekend escapes.

Their gorgeous site, based a few miles outside of Bellingham in Northumberland is the accommodation stop for Robson and his guest Rishi Nair in episode 13 of series 4.

We are also REALLY delighted that we booked our Easter break in Houlet Treehouse before the show aired as we are pretty sure we might have missed out on our break otherwise!

In all seriousness, yes they are clients, but that came about because of how many times we stayed there as a family and the relationship we built up with owners Rob and Vicky. It's a truly magical place, a real weekend escape.

We forgot to show you this! Last year we created a new website for HRC Hexham Rowing Club.

We took the brief to create something easy to use and update, clean and clear to navigate and to communicate what a great experience being part of their community is, and translated it into... this!

Rowing is an amazing way to keep fit, make new friends and get out in nature. We were delighted to be asked to create this new look site and we hope the club goes from strength to strength.

NEW FROM THE TENT STUDIO!
We really enjoyed working with Lorraine on the brand and launch of her new business, Riverstone Counselling.

Even though we created it, we must admit we are a bit in love with the icon of the logo and the way the soft colours blend into each other. We hope that all of Lorraine's prospective clients feel as calm and reassured as this logo makes us feel!

As well as a logo, we have created a new website and worked with Lorraine on other elements such as signage and bespoke patterned wallpaper - we will show you those soon...

But for now here is the logo, the website and a wonderful review left for our work on this project.

CELEBRATING TWENTY YEARS OF TENT
Here in 2025, streetfood is everywhere, even supermarkets use the terms to describe some of their fresh and ready meal offerings. At every local event it seems there are streetfood vans and stalls and it's a thriving part of the food economy.

Back in 2013 though, this was not the case and hard to believe as it is, there had never been a street food event or market in Newcastle - until Urban Night Feast!

The brainchild of Indian food writer Maunika at , this really was a regional first and a fun project to work on! We created the brand and also ran the social media and email marketing campaigns, developing a brand and voice that was cheeky, exciting, communicating that this event was going to be very much the place to be!

With an ambition to get a few hundred NE foodies along to the Boilershop venue over a long weekend, the event surpassed everyone's expectations, including ours and Maunika's, when thousands of people turned up and some vendors actually ran out of food on the first night! Over the weekend over 4,000 people turned up and queued to get in.

The event ran for a second year, even more people came than in the first year and the streetfood scene in Newcastle was well underway thanks to Maunika's vision, our brand and marketing expertise and a lot of hard work.

CELEBRATING TWENTY YEARS OF TENT
Another blast from the past and this time a gorgeous high end brochure for a very high end client!

Aston Workshop is the premier Aston Martin specialist in the UK and they are based just by Beamish in County Durham. We were brought on board by their associate and photographer to work on items like this brochure, as well as exhibition materials for shows in the UK and the Far East.

With such a stunning product and amazing photography, creating design for print like this is a bit of a dream. We didn't get an Aston Martin out of it sadly, but we did get to see the fantastic work that the company do in their very high tech workshop and the satisfaction of helping another NE company to take it's work to a global market!

CELEBRATING TWENTY YEARS OF TENT
This advert from 2007 illustrates how we like to think differently for our clients. Westmount came to us with a brief to create an advert for a supplement that was being published alongside a regional glossy. The supplement was about fashion and beauty and aimed at women in the area with higher incomes and aspirations to improve and invest in their image.

The client wanted us to use 'before and after' photos of teeth, fine on the pages of a website where you are explaining how you work and the effects your dentistry can have, but on an advert? We thought not!

The women reading the magazine just want the afters, they don't want to be reminded of the crumples and gaps in their own mouths, but how perfect and pearly white their smile could be with the help of professional cosmetic dentistry which back in 2007 in the UK was an emerging part of the beauty industry.

So we went all afters, with a beautiful natural image, and also built a fashion feel to the look of the ad, with the brand name sitting in a tag.

We also chose a headline that reminded the reader that they could invest in next season's must haves for their wardrobe, or in a smile that will enhance their beauty for a lifetime.

The advert was successful for the client and lead to an uptick in enquiries, consultations and clients.
