All set up and ready for tomorrow at Stand 19 for the MENE North East Manufacturing and Engineering Show.

Seeing my stand like this always brings a mix of pride and purpose. Grief is something every workplace is touched by, even when it sits quietly in the background. It changes how people feel, think and work. It affects concentration, confidence and how steady someone feels in themselves.

Here in the UK, almost a quarter of working age adults experienced a bereavement last year. More than two million were grieving so deeply that it affected how they managed day to day. This is happening in workshops, on factory floors and in offices everywhere.

In sectors where focus and safety matter, grief awareness is not a nice extra. It is essential.

I am here tomorrow to help make these conversations easier and to show how teams and leaders can respond with clarity and compassion.

If you are visiting the show, please pop by Stand 19. I would love to say hello and talk about why grief awareness matters for the people you work alongside every day.

Also a big shout out to Bryte Digital and Screen Ltd for my Stand art and leaflets!

BBC Radio 2 host Sara Cox set off from Hexham this morning on the second leg of her five-day mission to get Pudsey (the bear) to Pudsey (the town in Yorkshire)! 🏃🐻

After a long stretch from Kielder to Hexham yesterday, she’s now making her way towards Wolsingham, before continuing south to arrive in Pudsey by Friday.

Team GFW are proud supporters of BBC Children in Need, and we’re cheering Sara on as she heads south - passing by not one, but three of our offices along the route. In fact, Our Hexham office couldn’t wait to don their Pudsey ears in support this morning!

Good luck, Sara! We’ll be waving as you go by! 👋

When grief affects someone at work, it doesn’t just stay at home. This blog explores why grief is a workplace health and safety issue, how it impacts psychological risk, and what the HSE’s 5Rs framework can teach us about creating safer, more compassionate teams.

My new stands have arrived ahead of a talk I am delivering next week as part of a wellbeing initiative in the workplace.

When someone in the team experiences a loss it affects more than just one person
It ripples through departments, impacts morale and can change how people show up at work. Often silently.

In this session we are exploring:
✔️ What grief really is (beyond the clichés)
✔️ How it shows up in the workplace
✔️ What not to say
✔️ How colleagues and managers can offer sensitive practical support

Grief is not just a personal issue. It is a workplace one. And more organisations are starting to recognise that.

If you would like to bring grief awareness into your workplace please get in touch.

Grief and Mental Health: Let’s Talk About the Overlap Without the Labels

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and it's a powerful time to acknowledge that grief, while not a mental illness, does affect our mental wellbeing.

Sometimes support doesn’t look like action. It looks like presence. Like a lifebuoy at the edge of the sea. Quiet. Constant. There if needed. Trusted to be enough.

Holding space for someone who is grieving doesn’t need to be loud or dramatic. Sometimes the most powerful lifeline is simply giving them space to feel what they feel without trying to fix or redirect.

In the workplace, unacknowledged grief can quietly affect focus, mood, confidence or connection. But when we recognise the subtle signs and offer space without judgement we give people permission to be human.

In my work with organisations I explore how grief and mental health intertwine and how creating space for grief can build deeper trust, resilience and compassion.

You don’t need to fix it. Just don’t look away.
