I'm going on a webinar 🥳

Tuesday 24th March 12.30pm 🙌

I'm chatting with fellow small business owner Chris Money, founder of Smart Money Chartered Accountants, on all the employment changes coming in next month for employers.

We'll be covering:

- Statutory Sick Pay
- Statutory Paternity Leave
- Harassment, and
- Unfair Dismissal

I'll also be answering Chris' questions on real life examples and providing clear guidance on what you should be doing now to get ready and what you need to have in place before 6th April!

Why not grab a coffee and a bite to eat and join us? ✨

Me: "Did you document it?" 💫

🙄

Employer: "No, it was just a quick chat and a reminder about X, Y and Z".

Me: "Ah, ok, prove it".

🫤

Your employee has stormed out because they think that's not what was agreed. You said one thing and thought they understood....

Imagine if you knew how to document a conversation with ease so it becomes normal, common and expected✨

This provides:

✨ Clarity - everyone knows what was discussed and agreed.

✨ Consistency - the same standards applied to everyone.

✨ Protection - for both the business and the employee.

✨ Progress - issues addressed early, before they escalate.

I'm not talking a dissertation here. All that is needed is a short follow-up email or a file note: "here's a quick summary of our chat today, can you let me know if you agree to these notes I took so we can keep a clear record?" 🎉

Thankfully my retained clients get all these tools as standard when they get my support: every document provided with details of when and how to use them.

Good HR isn’t reactive. It’s preventative.

If you want straight-talking HR support that keeps you right every step of the way, DM me RETAINER today.

Things people say at work that they think are “Just Banter” 🙈

⚠️ (trigger warning for anyone easily offended, these are actual examples of banter gone wrong that I've dealt with in the past month) ⚠️

“Careful, don’t give that to him - he’s getting on a bit now.”
“Here she goes again, must be that time of the month.”
“You’re too sensitive, it’s just a joke.”
“You people are always late.”
“Alright princess, calm down.”

You might hear these all day, every day or perhaps rarely.

Sometimes the person laughs along. Sometimes they stay quiet. Sometimes they even tell themselves they’re being too sensitive.

Here's where you need to pay attention. 😐

Those ⬆️ comments that your team make is not "just banter". It's harassment.

It doesn’t matter if they were meant as a joke. It doesn't matter that they were "only kidding". Intent in an employment tribunal is irrelevant, they focus on how it made the person feel.

If the "banter" in your workplace creates an environment that feels hostile, humiliating or degrading, it can amount to harassment. And you're massively exposed, because harassment laws are changing again. Soon.

Healthy teams laugh with each other. 😄

Unhealthy ones laugh at someone. 😆

Which one is yours? ✨

“That’s just how he/she is.”

Usually said with a shrug. 🤦

Usually about someone who’s been getting away with poor behaviour for far too long.

Let me give you an example:

° Speaks rudely to people, because that's the way they've always done it.
° Swears and acts like a bull in a china shop on any given morning.
° Is good at their job BUT you never give them a team to manage and claim instead that you "play them to their strengths".

Let’s call it what it often is — bullying, harassment, or behaviour that’s making others feel uncomfortable, undermined, or anxious at work.

And when it’s brushed off like this, a few things happen:

• The behaviour gets worse (because there are no consequences).
• Good employees start to disengage or leave.
• You quietly build a culture where poor behaviour is tolerated.

🚨 And legally… you’re exposing your business to risk!

You don’t need to jump straight into a formal disciplinary process.

But you do need to deal with it.

And dealing with it means:

✔️ Calling the behaviour out early.
✔️ Having a clear, direct conversation about what’s not acceptable.
✔️ Setting expectations on what needs to change.
✔️ And actually following up.

Because the line at the top of my post is not a defence. It shows that you're not willing to improve your culture and you're letting a bully win. 🤯

People can change their behaviour - but only if a true leader addresses it. 💫

Are you going to be that person?

Probation periods aren’t about testing or pressuring people — they’re about fairness.

They allow employees to:
✨ Understand expectations
✨ Ask for support
✨ Show what they’re capable of

And allow employers to:
✨ Assess performance objectively
✨ Give timely guidance
✨ Make confident decisions

Final thought: A well-run probation benefits everyone — clarity, growth, and confidence for both employee and employer.

💥This is really important!!💥

The Law is changing in 2027. And it will affect everyone you've hired this year.

Unfair dismissal eligibility is reducing from 2 years' service to 6 MONTHS! ✨

This means you need to tighten up your recruitment practices and probationary period or you're leaving your business vulnerable.

Check out my free downloads on my website to get you started. Link in bio.
