Made it to Hutton’s unconformity at Siccar point this year. Probably the most important geological outcrop in the world and it’s here in Scotland. James sailed along this coastline with his pals in 1788 and absolutely fell in love with the outcrops because they showed that time is a lot deeper than what they had originally thought. He was looking for evidence that showed erosion, weathering, and sediments accumulating again. He wanted to find prove that these processes take millions of years rather than 1000s as originally thought. This is why he is known as the father of geology.
