We’re putting a pin in ’s baby shower newspaper. 🧷 In May’s words, it’s “less about games that get binned, and more about making a moment in time.” It’s a sweet, interactive way to celebrate a new chapter!

Cats are loving Kitten, and so are we! To celebrate the release of her debut novel, Kitten, writer Stacey Yu printed two editions of The Kitten Times - one for the UK cover and one for the US. It includes a playlist, book recommendations, cover outtakes and more. Copies were placed on seats at readings and featured at the purrr-fect in-store display at Foyles Bookshop in London.

Designer tatum used our vintage template as a starting point for the broadsheets. “The process was really collaborative,” she says. “Stacey had so many cute ideas, like the crossword puzzle and cat portraits, and I added an analogue-flair, drawing inspiration from the different cover designs.”

Local news is having something of a revival on Substack. That’s where The Hamptons Chronicle (THC) started in May, but print is in founder Rory Satran’s blood: her grandfather and great-grandfather ran small newspapers and magazines in northern Wisconsin (one was all about snowmobiles). She’s also a former The Wall Street Journal columnist. All of which is to say a print edition of THC was bound to happen – and we’re thrilled that it’s on our tabloids.

This first issue came out in July, covering things like backyard vineyards (“highly impractical and deeply romantic”), summer shoplifting and the buzziest chicken salads in town. There are also plenty of juicy scoops from “a place with two of the highest-networth zip codes in the U.S.”

“This project is very home-grown but with big ambitions,” says art director Nathaniel Kilcer. “It’s a thrill to see people pick up the physical copy. Sometimes they’ll share it on social media, which has created an interesting digital to analog and back to digital loop.” ➰

We don’t want to gossip, but we hear issue 2 is hitting newsstands very soon...

Summer’s coming to an end and the internships are, too. Editorial designer Talulla Torthe recently wrapped up her placement at , the monthly magazine published by BFI since 1932. “I thought: what better way to show thanks for my dream magazine internship than to make a magazine about it?” she says. She put together this “mockumagazine” that’s part thank you and part clever job application, featuring film reviews and an excerpt from her MA Publishing dissertation (on zines!)

Talulla tells us, “It was so fun getting home in the evenings and putting what I had learnt to use right away”.

May Murphy () LOVES newspapers. Over the past decade she’s used them for all sorts of big moments in her life, from baby showers to first birthdays to the kids table at her wedding and more. “The way that photos look makes my heart sing,” she says. “You see them in a different way. It’s much more tactile. I love the grain and the smell and everything about a newspaper.”

For our This Is My Newspaper series, we spent an afternoon with May at her home in Lincolnshire, flipping through her (still surprisingly crisp) newspaper archive.

May has shared two of her newspapers as FREE Canva templates! Find her Kids Club and First Birthday newspaper templates at the link in bio 🗞️
