The current 0% VAT rate on qualifying home installations is scheduled to end on 31 March 2027, with 5% VAT due to apply from 1 April.

For an installation priced at £10,000 before VAT, that would mean an additional £500, assuming the installation price stays the same.

For this Somerset installation, 16 AIKO solar panels sit within the slate roof, creating a neat finish alongside battery storage and backup capability.

The 7.6 kWp system includes:
▪️ 16 × 475W AIKO solar panels
▪️ 6 kW SolarEdge inverter
▪️ 9.7 kWh SolarEdge battery
▪️ SolarEdge Home Backup Interface

☀️ What difference has solar made to this Somerset household after two years?

The customer recently compared their costs before and after installation. Their electricity costs have fallen from around £120 to £35 a month on average, including payments for the electricity they export.

Their solar panels also help heat the water tank, reducing the oil needed by an estimated 873 litres a year.

Together, the customer estimates they are saving £1,762 a year. These are their own figures, and results will vary from home to home, but it is lovely to see how the system is working in practice.
