Today is Better Business Day. At QuoLux, Good Growth - where people, planet and profits all flourish - is at the heart of everything we do.

It's why we became a Certified B Corporation and it's why we wrote the book Realising Good Growth. The Better Business Act would make that approach the legal default for every UK company.

At the moment directors can consider people and planet, but they don't have to. One amendment to company law would change that for every business across every sector.

We back the campaign. If you do too, please write to your MP today. To read more and to find useful templates, go to 👇

We published a new article this week on LEADlight Cohort 12 who graduated back in the spring. If you're a Small-Medium Business (SMB) leader wondering whether your middle managers are getting the development they need, it's worth a read.

Nine managers from businesses across Gloucestershire - Cotteswold Dairy, Premiere Kitchens, Stewart Golf, Clean Shield, Snape Group, Lane's Health and Optimising IT - completed their six-month LEADlight journey and presented their Action Planning Challenge findings to their Leadership Panels on the Final Presentation Day.

Middle leaders are the layer of leadership that most businesses rely on every day - and invest in least. LEADlight exists precisely to change that.

Over six months, delegates build practical leadership skills, grow in confidence and work on real projects, making a tangible difference in each of their organisations.

"As a result of my project, we have already implemented many changes within our business which have had a positive impact." - Olivia Smith, Service Desk Supervisor, Frocester Security

If you have managers who are ready to grow, LEADlight Cohort 14 starts on 30th September 2026. Places are limited.

LEADlight Cohort 12 has graduated. Find out what the six-month programme involves, who it's designed for and how it's making a difference in businesses across the region.

Leases, organisational structures, roles & responsibilities, delegated authority, digital marketing, recruiting and, of course, AI were the hot subjects discussed at the Q+ meeting yesterday.

We were guests of Daniel Frise, Operations Director, MLG UK, Bristol and graduate of LEADâ„¢. Joining him were fellow Alumni and MDs - Andrew Snape, Matt Dolphin, Jon Groves, Ryan Speck and Todd Gifford.

And what an impressive business - new buildings, new services, new markets, new employees, new vans and growth, growth, growth - it’s all going on with a strong commitment to the colour orange and an eye for detail. Be in no doubt they care!

It was an exciting day at The ITSA Digital Trustyesterday for the GOLDâ„¢ Cohort 15 SMG meeting as the organisation got ready to ship off another container of computers to schools in Zimbabwe.

Following ITSA's recent call for donations, they are now sending 700 refurbished computers to the country, which will impact a huge 70,000 students.

Expertly hosted by CEO Geoff Newsome, we enjoyed the tour to see behind the curtain of this Cheltenham-based charity before the GOLDâ„¢ group got into the details of the strategic plan with discussions on how growth and innovation go hand-in-hand with social value impact.

Thank you Geoff for another great GOLDâ„¢ day, thanks Dave for chairing so well, and thank you to Matt and Henry for your input, suggestions and feedback as well.

Delighted to share that QuoLuxâ„¢ is once again sponsoring the Family Business award at the SoGlos Business Awards - and this year marks our sixth year of being involved with this brilliant category.

Family businesses bring a unique mix of long-term thinking, personal commitment and values-led leadership, and we see that first-hand through the leaders who join our programmes.

If you're running a family business in Gloucestershire and you're not putting yourself forward, I'd encourage you to think again.

These awards are a wonderful celebration of what businesses like yours contribute to this great county.

Entries close on Sunday 28th June - we'd love to see you in the mix 😊

McKinsey has just published a report saying the UK is in a "productivity doom loop" - and it comes down to management.

There are plenty of contributing factors, but McKinsey points to one that business leaders can actually do something about: management practices - we call it leadership practice.

The report notes that UK companies have weaker operational management systems than their US and German competitors. Leaders can point in the right direction, but without the systems to make performance visible and problems actionable, not much changes.

I've been working with Small-Medium Business (SMB) leaders for decades now, and this rings true. The business owners and senior leaders who join LEADâ„¢ are ambitious and driven - many are already succeeding, some have much self-doubt. What the programme gives them is something most have never had: the tools, the frameworks and the time and space to step back and lead with real intention.

9 out of 10 business leaders have never had formal leadership training. But that's not a character flaw, it's simply that formal leadership development has never been the norm for SMB owners.

When we do fill that gap, however, the results are striking.

Our longitudinal research, spanning 15 years of LEADâ„¢ data, shows an average 47% increase in productivity among delegates who complete the 10-month programme. Alongside that, delegates' companies average 42% sales growth and 197% profit growth.

For a £3m business, a £15k investment in LEAD™ would generate £300k in net profit - a 2,000% return on investment.

McKinsey says the productivity doom loop is fixable. So do I. But it requires leaders who are willing to invest in themselves and their teams - and we support them to create the right environment to do it.

If the productivity doom loop sounds familiar, take a look at what LEADâ„¢ delivers

Today, thousands of businesses across the UK posted at the same time: One message, one moment. Because the Companies Act is still stuck in 2006 - twenty years on and that's a problem.

Section 172 requires directors to promote the success of the company for its shareholders. Other considerations like employees, community, the environment are things directors need only "have regard to", but they're not equal obligations. Since 2006, business has modernised and now Section 172 must too.

The Better Business Act wants to change that weighting, so that every company in the UK is legally required to align the interests of shareholders with the wider good putting people, profit and planet on an equal footing.

As a B Corp, this isn't abstract for us. The businesses we work with on LEADâ„¢, GOLDâ„¢ and GAINâ„¢ are already running this way - making decisions that are good for their teams, their communities and their bottom line. They don't need the law to tell them to do it. But thousands of businesses do.

Better Business Day is 9th June.
Write to your MP ... it takes less than 60 seconds.

I'd like to say a big Thank You to everyone who attended our Realising Good Growth book event on Monday evening - it was truly wonderful, made great by the input from all of you.

The premise of the book is straightforward: humanity faces a growth crisis and yet we cannot simply stop growing - it is the moral paradox of our time.

So it looks at the question: what if we changed the nature of growth itself? And that is at the heart of Realising Good Growth, where profit supports the journey rather than defines it.

Here are some photos from the evening and a link to read more about the book 👇
