Neurological conditions affect the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves, which can impact your movement, function, and how you think/feel.

This can lead to cognitive decline, connection issues, coordination, muscle spasticity, chronic pain, speech problems, and mood changes to name a few!

Exercise is crucial for long-term neurological conditions as this helps improves movement, balance, walking, strength and builds confidence.

From using a wide range of exercise styles and techniques, it encourages your body to use and build the pathway for signals from the brain to muscles, known as the motor pathway. This is crucial to control all voluntary and involuntary movements, balance, and posture.

With the correct rehabilitation and treatment strategy, your neurological condition has the best chance for maximising functional recovery, improving quality of life and slowing the progression of the condition.

It is usually hard to know exactly what causes back pain, and sometimes it gets better on its own. However, we may need a little help to improve mobility and relieve pressure in the affected area.

To help you get started, we have provided some simple tips that you can do at home:

🚶‍♀️ It’s important to keep mobile and not let your back stiffen.

💪 Be careful not to do heavy duty tasks first thing in the morning as it takes roughly an hour for your back to warm up

❄️🔥Using ice followed by heat on the affected area is a good way to help relieve discomfort

🧘‍♂️ Ensure the muscles close by are not too tight. Gently stretch your hamstrings, your glutes and your hip flexors

🤸‍♀️ Complete gentle mobility exercises. Feel free to get in touch to find out more

Focusing on building strength in the muscles that support your back, such as your core and buttocks, is beneficial in helping to protect against further discomfort. While it may seem logical to remain stiff to shield the affected area, this approach can actually make things worse! Instead, it is best to stay as relaxed as possible and gently introduce small movements, doing so without fear. This encourages better recovery and helps prevent the issue from persisting.

Remember, seeking support is a positive step toward feeling better and regaining comfort ✨
