Phoenix Consultants x Greeper Laces - Another fantastic batch manufacture client needing short production runs and fast turnaround.

Greepers are the award-winning, patented no-tie shoelaces that once fitted, the laces form a ready-made bow that can be easily loosened or tightened in seconds using toggles, ensuring they never come undone.

Using additive manufacturing technology, there was no upfront tooling investment and reserves the ability to adjust the design during production runs as well to swap materials and colours.

This involved evaluating CAD, simulating parts to optimise production, and then 3d printing in recycled PETg ready for end use.

A couple of months ago we had the pleasure of working with History Craft to create a commemorative gift celebrating the anniversary of the Channel Tunnel Treaty signed at Canterbury Cathedral. Here is a look at the final gift inspired by the real plaque at Canterbury Cathedral.

This involved recreating the stone carved plaque in 3D CAD from reference photos, rapid prototyping and making size adjustments to the model to better suit the requirements of the gift, and then SLA 3D printing masters for History Craft to make moulds from and cast a batch of the final gifts.

We really enjoyed working with History Craft on this project and are very pleased with the final product.

Was great to visit University of the West of England School of Engineering - UWE Bristol for an SME Business Breakfast earlier this week. There was a really good pannel discussion and we even got to look around Future Space - Bristol, there is some exciting things happening over at the UWE campus and look forward to finding more excuses to come down to North Bristol and meet with the businesses based there.

Recently we have been expanding our in-house batch production capabilities where we recently took on an order to manufacture 1200 parts that will be assembled in the final product. We are very excited to be working with businesses to help produce parts locally in the UK.

It was fantastic working with Hydroxyl Technologies to develop their Airora Wall product, a large scale air purifier for up to 450m³ spaces. The patented air cleaning technology utilise medical grade cold plasma UVC lamps to create a high intensity of decontaminating hydroxyls that not only filter the air passing through Airora Wall, but also the air of the entire room. This achieves a the chemical makeup and freshness of outdoor air, but indoors.

Part of the design process had us exploring the optimal airflow passage through the different filtering stages and iteratively building prototypes for analysis. As part of long-term product testing, the latest prototype build was ran for over 10 months proving reliability of the design and air quality output. "I have been running the prototype almost non-stop since collecting it. Faultless." - Alan Mole, Co-Founder & Chief Scientist, Hydroxyl Technologies.

A fantastic review of our work with The Music Works - Gloucester creating an accessible musical instrument, thank you Lee Holder for writing this review.

“The Music Works commissioned Phoenix Consultants to work with them on a new project, called Sound Gadgets, which had received a small amount of seed funding to create a new accessible music instrument to work with disabled musicians.

Over the next year, we worked through several concepts with their design team to create a device to meet the needs of participants from National Star Centre and some of the specialist education schools in Gloucestershire. Initial plans to create a glove capable of transmitting MIDI data were modified based on participant feedback and market research, and through a number of consultancy meetings, we developed a simpler but more practical device that better met the practical requirements of the disabled musicians and their needs in the session.

Phoenix Consultants and The Music Works came up with an innovative solution that was modelled on the affordable Micro:Bit prototyping board operating as a data cartridge for individually customisable settings for each musician, and a wearable element for wrist or ankle that incorporated a battery pack and input for accessible switches. This enabled accelerometer data to be captured and sent to a computer or iPad with the touch of a button, creating an extremely configurable device that broke down barriers to music making for those with physical disabilities.

The Music Works are grateful to Phoenix Consultants for bringing this project to life and working closely with us to find a practical solution to a real world challenge and helping us to transform lives through music.”
