A warm welcome to the new group of The Geotechnical Academy. Group 13 started TGA by studying “How to Plan and Manage Geotechnical Works”. This module looks at the structure of a typical geotechnical investigation, the process and the parties involved. With delegates from CH2M, Keynetix, Graham Atrill Civil Engineering, Ringway Island Roads, Balfour Beatty, Geotechnical Engineering and Kier there was a wealth of experience that added to the lively discussions throughout the day.

Delegates from Gp12 have been spending the morning learning the fundamentals of soil logging. With delegates from GEL, Wessex Water, Balfour Beatty, InSitu and AB Anchors there's a wide range of experiences between them and they have all been able to contribute their knowlegde as well as learning about the finer differences between clays, silts, sands and gravels.

Working safely on geotechnical sites is something that we take very seriously at The Geotechnical Academy. In Module 2 we consider the legislation along with the practical aspects such as how to supervise the safe operation of a drilling rig, manual handling and the safe loading of vehicles. Yesterday we said farewell to Group 11 of TGA. Dr Roger Chandler from Keynetix presented certificates to our delegates from Soil Consultants Ltd, Kier, Galliford Try, PileDesigns and Keynetix. We will miss this lively group who both contributed to and learned from the experience of the practical nature of the TGA.
