Here's a useful idea for all you Mutt's Nuts USB/Accessory box owners - if you get hold of a solar panel that produces up to 40v you can put bullet type crimp connector sockets on the ends of the wires and connect it up to the box to charge phones, power banks, torches etc. with sunlight. Here's the prototype being used at the Yorkshire Wartime Experience to charge our torch and electronic cigarette. It didn't take long in the glorious sunshine we had!

Just to clarify a bit, the USB boxes contain circuitry that takes any voltage from 12v to 40v negative earth and regulates it as required to about 12.5v 20A for the accessory socket and 5v 1.2A for the USB ports, there are NOT different versions of the box for different voltage vehicles, you can swap it from a 12v to a 24v (or anything up to 40v) vehicle without having to change anything. The voltmeter always displays the input voltage so you can check the battery condition and charging voltage. Also, it will work with a vehicle without an inspection lamp socket if you can wire it in, it has been used on a GMC and a Dodge with no problems. If you have a solar panel that is powerful enough you can even connect it up to that! Any 12v-40v DC input will work without adjustment.

What people have said about our little box of tricks;
Recently received the first production USB/accessory box from Cliff Charter and it has had its first test yesterday during a 15 mile road trip. It works very well and I used it to power my heavy duty 15 amp compressor to pump the tyres to the correct pressures, very liberating not having to have the car next to the Ferret to supply 12V for the compressor. The box supplied power to my Tomtom satnav and mobile phone from the two USB sockets and it was showing a charging voltage of 30V during the run on the LED display. The magnets are very powerful and kept the box firmly in place during the run, all in all a very worthwhile piece of kit and no Ferret should leave home without one, cheers Cliff!

"Special kudos to Cliff Charter! He was most patient dealing with me regarding the purchase of one of his ""boxes"" as I was forced to drag my feet due to family medical issues. Cliff packed the box superbly for its voyage from the UK to Canada. It arrived surprisingly quickly and in perfect order. I got a chance to put it to use today and am tickled pink with it. Hi Cliff. I am the proud owner of your first production box and I don't know how I got on without it, I use it regularly for charging the mobile phone and powering the satnav. Also on the odd time I need it for powering the compressor. Brilliant piece of kit!👍

We now have the new USB/Accessory/Voltmeter boxes made for us spray painted NATO green, plus all the components for the next batch of 20, so we will be assembling them and shipping them out as soon as people have paid.
This new batch has improved magnets (keep your fingers out of the way!) and a couple of other minor improvements.
