With everything which is going on in today's world, I cannot believe that this is a thing:

The UK government is running a consultation on reintroducing 'imperial' (ie non-metric) measurements.

You can view the consultation and take part here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/choice-on-units-of-measurement-markings-and-sales

The questions are somewhat loaded:
The way they have been worded more or less assumes a return to imperial measurements, with the questions more or less being about whether we should also keep metric alongside (but less prominent).

This is some sort of sick joke, right?

Seems that it's all to do with pandering to the populism generated in some quarters by the UK's departure from the European Union.

But the UK's switch to metric units had little or nothing to do with our erstwhile membership of the EU.
For example, the Ordnance Survey switched to a metric national grid before WWII.

The metric system we use today owes its origins to the ISO, which was set up in the 1940s and is nothing to do with the EU.

This consultation closes at 11pm on 26th August 2022

We are inviting views to gather information for the government review of units of measurement for consumer transactions.

This morning, the Department for Transport published updates of two important documents: 'Inclusive Mobility' and 'Guidance on the Use of Tactile Paving Surfaces'.

The DfT has released the following Press Release, which mentions these two publications:

The DfT has launched a consultation on how street design can help make people feel more safe on streets. It relates to personal safety rather than road safety.

The outcome will feed into the new Manual for Streets that is currently being developed for the Department for Transport, so they hope to get a good response. If you have any evidence to submit or know someone who do please let them know about this consultation.

More information and consultation here:
