🧸 Help shape the future of toy safety

The toys children play with are changing, and so are the ways we buy them.

We're inviting views on the UK's toy safety framework to help ensure safety rules remain fit for today's world.

Whether you're a parent, grandparent, carer, consumer or business, we'd like to hear your views.

πŸ‘‰ Take part here: Toys safety regulations: https://www.gov.uk/government/calls-for-evidence/toys-safety-regulations-call-for-evidence

πŸ“… The consultation closes on 6 October 2026.

Craft fair season is in full swing, and so is the frustration. Here's one to share about a bit to get the word out there about what craft fair organisers should be doing.
Big thanks to stallsync for their help with this - they've created a brilliant site for sellers to help keep legal documents handy and in one place for a fair, as well as some extra guidance documents on craft fair legalities - important stuff! They even have a fair host section, to make checking compliance and safety easy for everyone! What a fab idea!

One of my favourite things to do in a museum is search out the most dangerous toy there πŸ˜‚ Now this Webb Kids working lawn mower from 1960 may have been the one in the young V + A a couple of weeks ago.
Toy regulations didn't come in til the 1970s, though there was some guidance from the British standards institute on sharp edges in 1961.
It did have a safety mechanism though - a band designed to slip if anything got caught in the cutting cylinder. Would love to see it working πŸ˜‚ The temptation to buy one on eBay is strong.

Something that comes up often, who are we to tell you what to do?
I am passionate about simplifying toy safety to make it more accessible to all who make toys. Even down to creating testing methods to follow the standards from home from scratch.
Toy safety is our thing 😍 we love it and we love small businesses!
