Pat-it Ltd In-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment (PAT testing) . Member & Representative of PATTA

16/10/2026

Why is PAT testing important?

This damaged plug was found on an extension reel powering a pressure washer. The staff using it had no idea how close they were to a potential electric shock or fire risk.

Regular PAT testing and electrical equipment inspections help identify faults like this before they become dangerous.

A simple maintenance regime can prevent accidents and keep staff safe.

Real-time BS1363 plug replacement and re-tested to BS EN 50678.
It's normally a big giveaway when a plug or lead has some sort of tape over it.
As any good inspector will do, is to remove the tape and conduct a full visual inspection.
The cap on this one was corroded and brittle allowing it to come off quite easily, not what you want when it's plugged in and live!
