𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻

Tustin Estate is undergoing its next phase of transformation, paving the way for 284 new homes, improved public spaces and enhanced community infrastructure as part of a major regeneration project in South London.

Working alongside Bouygues UK, Downwell Group is playing a key role in preparing the site for its next chapter. Before mechanical demolition could begin, hundreds of flats across the estate required detailed surveying, inspection, specialist asbestos remediation and soft strip works, highlighting both the scale and complexity of the project.

This collaborative effort brings together expertise from across the Group, with Downwell delivering demolition, enabling and ground engineering works, Inner City Environmental undertaking asbestos remediation, and Inner City Scaffolding installing protective demolition screening to safeguard neighbouring residents and surrounding buildings throughout the works.

Innovation on site isn't always about the biggest machine. Sometimes it's about bringing together a number of technologies that help our teams work safer, smarter and more efficiently.

On one of our projects in Central London, we're carrying out major structural strengthening works to the building's reinforced concrete core.

To support the works, we've brought together an impressive range of technology, including:

🤖 Remote-controlled demolition robots carrying out precise concrete breakout in restricted areas.
🦾 Hilti EXO-S exoskeletons helping reduce operator fatigue during manual breaking activities.
🦠 JSP Jetstream Powered Respirator Kits providing enhanced protection from respirable crystalline silica dust.

Each piece of equipment has a different role to play, but together they're helping us improve safety, support workforce wellbeing and deliver complex structural alterations more efficiently.

It's a great example of how the construction industry continues to evolve, combining skilled people with innovative solutions to tackle challenging projects.

We're pleased to share progress from our project in Bermondsey, London, where our team is delivering a carefully planned programme of enabling and demolition works.

The scope includes:

✅ Crushing demolition arisings for reuse on site

Our latest project video showcases the precision, control and expertise of our operators as they carry out complex demolition activities using specialist heavy equipment.

Working within a busy urban environment requires meticulous planning. We have carefully assessed and managed the surrounding environment to ensure neighbouring buildings, public areas and the wider community remain protected throughout the works.

Sustainability continues to shape our delivery, with 98% of project materials recycled or recovered, helping to reduce waste and support a more circular approach to construction.

🚒 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀

Yesterday, members of our team assisted Essex County Fire and Rescue Service in responding to a potentially serious lithium battery fire at a local vehicle servicing depot near our office and yard.

Following the failure and explosion of one battery, four lithium batteries became involved in the incident. Working under the direction of the fire service, we utilised our specialist lifting equipment to safely relocate the batteries into a skip filled with water, helping firefighters bring the situation under control quickly and effectively.

We were pleased to support the emergency services during what was a challenging incident, helping to minimise further risk and reduce disruption to the local area.

A huge thank you to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service for their professionalism and dedication throughout the response. We are proud to have played a small part in supporting their efforts.

𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵, 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀: 𝗔 𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Our new video captures the transformation of our enabling works project for Global Switch at their London South Data Centre in Docklands.

Using a unique "Flight Through Time" approach, the video combines aerial footage captured over a seven-month period, from when the project was already well underway through to completion.

As the drone moves across different areas of the site, the footage takes you back and forth through the construction programme, revealing how key parts of the development evolved and highlighting the scale of progress achieved along the way.

From extensive earthworks and excavation to piling mat construction, drainage, and infrastructure works, this project showcases the breadth of services delivered by our team to prepare the site for the next phase of construction.

We hope you’ll agree, it's a fascinating way to look back at the project and appreciate the scale, complexity and coordination involved in delivering a major data centre development.

Downwell currently tops the Bouygues UK table for on-site subcontractor health and safety performance. This achievement reflects the team's commitment to maintaining the highest standards and ensuring everyone returns home safely.

Further demonstrating the high standards being maintained on site, the Tustin Estate project was selected as part of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors' (NFDC) annual audit programme. As part of the assessment, the site hosted an unannounced visit by NFDC, who used the project as a live on-site evaluation of demolition practices and standards.

🧡 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆
Our commitment extends beyond the site, with the team currently supporting the refurbishment of perimeter fencing at a local school. Another example of how our involvement in projects leave a positive legacy within the communities they serve.

More bites taken out of our project on William Road in Central London.

This footage captures one of our demolition excavators hard at work, carefully dismantling the existing structure as part of our enabling works package.

Operating heavy machinery in a dense urban environment is about far more than power. Every movement is deliberate, every sequence meticulously planned, and every action carried out with precision. In locations where space is limited and neighbouring buildings are either directly connected or just metres away, machine handling becomes a blend of skill, experience and precision, demanding complete control from the operator at every stage.

After months of careful planning and delivery, we're now down to the final bites.
