There is a difference between being a professionally trained speaker and just speaking, even if you have done speaking before.
When I work with people who want to become professional speakers, I recognize their passion for sharing their message and story with the world to make an impact.
But what many people are not aware of is: if you want to make an impact there is a way of sharing your story that will connect with your audience on a much deeper level than just sharing the story as a matter of fact.
Your audience doesn't just want to know facts, figures or get information from you. Information is easily accessible online. Knowledge is only retained when emotions are engaged.
What makes the most difference is when your audience is emotionally connected to your message and in turn inspired to take action.
I always say to speakers who are worried about their speaking engagements - 'it isn't about you, it's about your audience and the feeling you want to evoke in them and the impact your message is going to make'.
So tap into your own emotions when sharing your story on stage, use emotive language, and use your intonation, and hand, and face gestures to add depth to your talk.
Most importantly take people on a journey with your story, so your listener can see the story through your eyes and feel it through your emotions.
Public or motivational speaking is a craft, it's a skill that gets developed over time. Let me know in the comments how you would make an impact at a speaking engagement.
