🐝 NEW MEMBER THURSDAY: Meet Competum Training!

We’re delighted to welcome Competum Training to the Business Hive community!

Providing quality construction and industry-related training, Competum offers a range of courses, including CITB courses, Street Works, NVQs and Skills Bootcamps. With a passion for supporting local employment and helping businesses develop a skilled workforce, they’re committed to delivering high-quality training at competitive prices.

So, why did they join the Hive?

Competum wants to raise awareness of its services, build relationships with local employers and explore opportunities to collaborate with other businesses. They’re also keen to play an active role in tackling local skills shortages and supporting the Grimsby and North East Lincolnshire economy.

Having heard about the Business Hive’s approach to supporting business growth, including our Growth Accelerator Programme, they’re looking forward to getting involved, making connections and developing partnerships that support recruitment, skills development and career progression.

What happens when all the perfect ingredients of networking come together?

A great venue, a fantastic local sponsor, good food, plenty of business conversations and a shared passion for making our area a better place to live and work.

That's exactly what we had at last night's First Tuesday Networking at Franklin Sixth Form College!

With Franklin College sponsoring our Bonfire Night-themed event, we enjoyed hot dogs, hot chocolates and, most importantly, the company of around 50 local business people coming together to connect, share ideas and build relationships.

There was something particularly special about bringing everyone together at a college that plays such an important role in preparing young people for the world of work and developing the next generation of talent in our area.

We also had our Lounge Residents there, proudly flying the flag for GY28 Grimsby Town of Culture 2028, encouraging local businesses to get behind the bid and be part of something that could make a real difference to our town.

And of course, no networking evening would be complete without a few prizes!

Congratulations to our lucky winners:

Lauren Kuhl from Forrester Boyd won the prosecco.
Les Gilliatt won the Caxton Theatre tickets.
Nick Vessey took home the £100 GCW vouchers.

It was one of those evenings that reminds us what networking is really about. Not just exchanging business cards, but bringing people together, creating opportunities, supporting one another and building a stronger local business community.

A huge thank you to Franklin College for sponsoring and hosting such a fantastic evening, and to everyone who came along and helped make the atmosphere so positive.

Running a business, managing a team or juggling the demands of everyday life can sometimes feel overwhelming. Having someone who will listen, without judgement, can help you put things into perspective.

That’s why Business Hive members have access to our dedicated workplace chaplain, Mary Vickers.

Mary offers a confidential, independent and supportive listening ear to staff, tenants, clients and members. Whether you need to talk through a challenge, share a concern or simply have a conversation, she’s there to listen.

📍 You can speak with Mary in person, over the phone, via Teams or Zoom, or even arrange a walk and talk.

🤝 The service is open to everyone, regardless of faith or beliefs.

Mary will be available this Friday if you’d like to have a chat.

Sometimes, you don’t need someone to have all the answers. You just need someone to listen.
