HOW TO WORK FROM HOME
We’re all facing a new normal.
What can I do to help?
I worked at home a lot so I can share what I learnt.
Home’s a very different environment to work. Recognise this & find ways to partition, letting work bleed into your personal life isn’t good for your wellbeing or productivity. Create some separation of your environment & mindset.
Here’re my top tips, they won’t work for everyone, but try the principles.
1. TIME
Plan specific times you’re working/not working & stick to them. These don’t have to be 9-5 but could be, build in breaks.
Stop work 2/3 hours before bed.
2. KEEP MOVING
Start your day with exercise, at least 20 mins, whatever works for you.
Get up at least once an hour & get moving. Pace while you’re on the phone.
3. SEPARATE WORK & LIFE
A comfortable & functional work area is vital. If possible, setup in a separate room, where you can close the door at the end of the day. If that’s not possible, set up & then clear at the end of day.
4. EAT PROPERLY
Eat at sensible mealtimes, don’t snack. Drink enough water. Moderate caffeine try & stop after midday.
5. STAY IN TOUCH
Working at home can be isolating – find time for conversations.
Finally. gin (etc) might feel necessary before the next ghastly webinar – but likely a bad idea, YMMV!
