As I get older the more things I attempt which end up with an okay result seem to spur me on to gain a better result.

Painting has definitely been one of those challenges. For me it has come down to the brush I use. Finding the right tool for the job makes life so much enjoyable.

More painting jobs are lined up! Now only have a handful of spaces left until August! What a year it has been since I started in February 2026.

A returning customer actually said to me. Hey Matt how do you feel about painting and decorating our hallway, stairs and landing. I felt like I’d be punched by surprise and didn’t see it coming. I smiled and said I’ll send you a quote and feel free to ask around. I’ve done parts of this kind of work before but having to get multiples of those tasks done did make me wonder if I could single handedly do it.

Short story is I did it and I’m back in to paint and decorate their en-suite!

People loving the refurbing at the moment.

It can be a pain finding specific pieces and always a relief when the works done as I’m stressing out wanting to make the customer happy.

Anyway I obviously made a good impression as a family member then got me into quote a small landscape job. And this couple also want me back to sort out other rotten wood.

All in all a sunny day along with some job satisfaction 😎

A good day.

Got my head around some bowed wood i made to replace a 1/4 of a rotten shed door. I was going to soak it flat but I’d have to come back to paint it and I was already behind time. So with some bracing and about 40 screws I got it under control 😎

The customer got back home after I left and messaged me to say: absolutely wonderful, we’re so grateful. The painting in the enterance looks brilliant.

Replacing 8 paving stone steps

Paving stones were laid on a thick bed of mortar (sharp sand, cement and water).

Left for 24 hours to dry then added the pointing.

Making a bin drawer miraculously appear where there was once a dishwasher or something.

Customer sourced me the bin drawer mechanism, I sorted the cupboard door and MFC.

*update* been called back in to add a kick board as originally they left it off their to-do list.

Boxing in a boiler…

Did my best to level this up. Get it sturdy with enough studs supporting each other. I’m pleased with how it turned out for the customer. It was definitely a learning curve.

What I love about this customer is that they support me by just giving me a chance. They know I’m not a pro carpenter but they gave me a shot which means a lot to me. Sometimes learning on the job is the education. Some customers refuse to give a handyman a chance which is fine but yeh just saying how I really appreciated this. A lovely family too!

I think my neighbours saw my fence sign advertising my business. So they asked me to paint their summer house. I estimated the day to do two coats with brushes. If it wasn’t for rain I would have been home earlier than expected. Very happy to have done this for my new neighbours. Cheers 🫟

The other day I was interviewed on ’s voice of business. It felt good and I enjoyed myself. I can see why people have scripts and PR managers though 🤣 I was a bit lost for ‘to the point’ answers but anyway glad I’m not a celebrity that’s for sure 😅

Whilst I talked a bit around Dab Hand Handyman and also last year with .business.services I did take a lot of pleasure in sharing about what success means to me. A funny old word and world that. I just want to impress my wife and kids and I’m happy with that. So success to me is my family and making sure business is second to them.
