What BAFE SP205 Accreditation Means for Your Fire Risk Assessment

The fire risk assessment market is underregulated at the point of supply. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires competence but mandates no specific qualification. That gap means the market contains excellent practitioners and poorly qualified ones, and from the outside they can look identical.

BAFE SP205 is the independent certification scheme for life safety fire risk assessors. Both the company and individual assessors are independently audited. Fourbridge is BAFE SP205 accredited.

The Fire Safety Act 2021 and Building Safety Act 2022 have significantly raised the obligations on responsible persons. A BAFE SP205 accredited assessment is documented evidence of having engaged a competent, independently verified assessor. Why an In-House UKAS-Accredited Laboratory Matters

Every asbestos laboratory in the UK is legally required to hold UKAS accreditation to ISO 17025 under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. What sets Fourbridge apart is that we hold both ISO 17020 for surveying and ISO 17025 for bulk sample analysis within the same accredited quality management framework.

Most surveying companies dispatch samples to external laboratories. That introduces a chain of custody handoff between two separate organisations. We have seen cases where analytical certificates do not clearly reconcile with sample locations in the survey report. It sounds administrative. It is actually a serious defensibility issue for your asbestos register.
