For many people, their home is their most valuable asset.

It's also often the asset that creates the most questions when it comes to estate planning.

Should it pass automatically to a spouse?

What happens in a second marriage?

How can children from previous relationships be protected?

What role can trusts play?

In our latest blog, we explore why the family home is often at the centre of estate planning decisions and the key issues that should be considered when putting arrangements in place.

Topics include:

✔ Joint Tenants vs Tenants in Common
✔ Blended families and second marriages
✔ Property trusts
✔ Care fee considerations
✔ Reducing the risk of future disputes

Many people still believe in the concept of a "common law spouse".

The reality is that unmarried couples often have far fewer legal protections than they expect – particularly when it comes to inheritance and intestacy.

The Government is currently consulting on potential reforms to cohabitation rights, which could have significant implications for families and estate planning.

In our latest article, we explore what these proposals could mean and why having a valid, up-to-date Will remains as important as ever.

Many business owners have a Will.

Far fewer have a plan for what happens to their business if they're no longer around.

Who would run it?

Who would have access to key accounts and information?

What happens to shares, partnerships, employees and ongoing contracts?

Without proper planning, even a successful business can face uncertainty at exactly the wrong time.

In our latest blog, we explore:

✔ What happens to sole traders, partnerships and limited companies after death
✔ Why business succession planning matters
✔ The role of shareholder and partnership agreements
✔ How Business Lasting Powers of Attorney can help
✔ Why a Will may only be one part of the solution

If you own a business, it's worth asking whether your plans protect more than just your personal assets.

Most people spend a lot of time deciding who should inherit their estate.

Far fewer spend the same amount of time deciding who should administer it.

Yet choosing the right executor can be one of the most important decisions in your Will.

So who should you choose? A family member? A friend? A professional?

In our latest blog, we explore:

✔ What an executor actually does
✔ Whether you should appoint more than one executor
✔ Common mistakes people make
✔ When a professional executor may be appropriate
✔ The questions you should ask before making your decision
