From a business perspective, it is quite something to look at where we started and where we are heading next.
VLS Care Ltd has grown over the years from a small care provider into an organisation delivering supported living, outreach and bespoke support packages across different communities. That growth has not happened overnight. It has come through learning, adapting, investing in our team, listening to the people we support and continually looking at where services can be improved.
Our next stage of development is focused on building a wider range of opportunities around the people and communities we already support.
Through **VLS Care Ltd**, we are preparing to expand our supported living provision and introduce additional respite opportunities, creating more flexible options for adults who need the right level of support while still promoting independence, choice and long-term stability.
Alongside this, **CalderStones Community CIC** has been established to develop meaningful day opportunities and community-based activities for adults with additional needs.
What makes this next chapter particularly exciting is that our work is now growing across Calderdale and Rochdale, with our new provision positioned right on the border of Lancashire* This gives us the opportunity to work across local authority boundaries and build stronger links with communities, professionals, commissioners and families across Calderdale, Rochdale and Lancashire.
The CIC allows us to build something different from our regulated care provision. It creates space for skills development, social opportunities, volunteering, cooking, budgeting, communication sessions, community projects and activities designed around individual outcomes rather than a traditional one-size-fits-all model.
Importantly, CalderStones is not intended to operate in isolation. We want to work collaboratively with families, local authorities, social workers, commissioners, care providers, supported living services and community organisations.
People attending CalderStones do not have to receive their care from VLS Care. Existing providers, family members and support teams will be welcome to access activities and opportunities alongside the people they already support.
For us, this is about developing a more joined-up model.

Two separate organisations with different purposes, but with a shared focus on creating better opportunities for the people who use them.
As a business, diversification also gives us the opportunity to develop sustainably, create new employment and volunteering opportunities, build stronger local partnerships and respond more flexibly to gaps within health and social care provision.
There is still a lot of work ahead, but we are incredibly proud of what VLS Care has achieved and excited about what this next stage could bring.
