British Airways has withdrawn a proposed incentive that would have linked part of pilots’ pay to reductions in fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

The scheme could have awarded pilots up to 1% of basic salary if a collective target of 60,000 tonnes of CO₂ savings was achieved against a 2025 baseline.

BALPA confirmed the incentive was removed following consultation with members. The proposal stated that flight safety and the commander’s authority must always take priority over commercial or environmental considerations.
